I made 2 trees from felt but it is expensive and then I found a sheet of what looks like maiden hair! It came around some flowers onece. This stitched out fine and the last one is fsl. The red one was a mistake as I was trying to be clever and not change my cotton twice but forgot to change the pattern. Hey ho it looks fine.

I think the one with red looks pretty cool! Edging in white may make it look like it has snow on the branches, hmmmm. For me, at JoAnn's I get a sheet of felt for 29 cents so that's pretty cheap for a tree. Mine are still a bit wobbley but I hate to cut too far up into the threads and that would fix my problem. Don't know what maiden hair is but the FSL ones turn out cute too.

If they wobble put a stitch in the bottom and hang them.

I don't know what to call 'maidenhair' it feels like a cross between paper and material with threads in it. Must ask a florist as that is where it came from.
