FSL is Free Standing Lace stitched on washaway stabilizer instead of tearaway. I also was wondering if this is FSL but I think you say you have embroidered 2 pieces & then stitched them together back to back. What stabilizer did you use in the hoop?

Thank you. So I did the following: a thin material, here in white, then I have a bow stabilizer ironed clamped in the hoop and a little slower than usual embroidered. You can certainly also make your machine slower. Then carefully cut out with scissors an application, back down to Rüchseite and application stitch sewn together. Below, then a small loop tape ready.
Instead of the thin fabric, you can take water soluble stabilizer. This looks like a fabric dissolves but if you hold it under water. That works too. I have tried it.

free standing lace - can embroider on topping and then wash that away - no fabric.

Yes, it is best on a thin cloth (I used Batiste) and to embroider with tear stabilizer.
