I've stitched a design today which had over 50000 stitches and took about 2 hours to stitch. It looks great (picture will appear in projects later) but I have a sneaking feeling that I'm more creative using very simple designs. What do the rest of you think?

I first went to see the design and I know it took a long time, but it also shows....it is just a magnificant design and if it didn't have this much detail it would loose most of the character of this green man....I like the embroidery library designs due to the build up underneath and the complex details that they have, then again I love redwork designs as I just think they are so simple an elegant....so I think we need both....you did a great job on this book cover and I think Shirlene just has to do this design for her mom......thanks for sharing the design with us....and thanks for this question.....good one....

I generally like designs that are quicker to stitch out and not so heavy with stitches.

I enjoy both - for the whatever the design was created for in the 1st place - they each have their good points. I love detail in a design - but not too much that it makes it too dense or busyand yet - I love the simple elegant look, too. *4U

I have to admit that so far I have stayed with simple things but hope to tackle something complex so I can feel the joy of doing something that took some work and time and then I see the final results. Now I just do something up and run to the living room to show hubby and get his approval. This has become a very expensive hobby for me since I have never sold anything and have given so much away to family and friends. They all love the gifts but the $$ is really taking a toll. After Christmas I will ease up and try a FSL bowl and doily.

Sue I have recently stitched the xmas tree from emlibrary. 84500 stitches and took 4 hours to stitchout, many thread changes. This I will make into a cushion for a very special person but not something I would stitchout every day. I prefer to make a few quick ones, and wait for a special occasion to do this type again. In saying that, the fslace for my daughters upcoming wedding takes many stitches and hours, but is well worth the effort, and I just get on with the sewing side of things while it stitches. Helen

I'm with you. It's nice to sew out a large design, it looks great and you can be awed - but there's not a lot of creativity involved other than the designer's.
Combining simpler designs, mirroring, rotating, using your own creativity to get the result you want - it gives more satisfaction.

I like to live by the saying "less is more" always used to tell my customers that the eg. pretty little black dress, looks better than the icing on the cake dress, and I have proved it over and over. I believe that the same goes in embroidery.

The sitting still is when I listen to the radio, tidy up, look at Cute, day dream...

There is something about sewing out a large design, slowly watching it grow and take shape. Keeping fingers crossed that nothing will go wrong as it is nearly finished. It is also great to sew lots of simple designs.

I have been through a phase of enlarging the design I am working on to the largest my softwear will take it to for my largest hoop. Then these pieces of work are made into cushions

Sue you have produced some great cards, which is something I have not done in a age

Have fun deciding what you are going to do

I guess that it would depend on what you are trying to achieve with the design. Most of the designs with so many stitches can be mind boggling, and you may not want to try them - but they usually have more detail. I like things that are a little quicker, but do love the really detailed designs too.

I am soooo with you! I love the simpler, less dense designs and feel I can do so much more with them.

Some simple designs stitch out very good, and are very quick to do. Some designs have many stitches and look very nice, with those there is more shade of colours, and the drawing of the desing has more details. All depend of your project, and also of the time that you have.there are many marvelous things to do with all sort of designs

I think it does'nt hurt to do one large project now and then instead of small ones. Do what makes you happy . Looking forward to seeing it in projects.

I'm new at this even thou I have been here for a while. Don't have lots of time to do what I like is the problem. I think it depends on the design and what you are doing. Some designs are simple and very nice but others are more to stitch out and they too are very nice. Lets see what we hear from ones that stitch all the time. Flower for you...and have a great day.
