messes up the bobbin case. I have had 6 new ones in the last few months. I had it in for repairs the first time it happened. It was given a new case but it keeps doing it. Does anyone have any ideas? I will take it back for repairs but I am afraid the problem is not being fixed.

SOUNDS LIKE TO ME THAT THE TOP THREAD IS NOT STAYING IN TENSION. tHERE MIGHT BE LINIT OR A SMALL PIECE OF THREAD IN THE TENSION DISC.

oo just to add.. I did notice omn the 700 that I never really noticed any difference when adjusting the tension on the screen..
instead once you have selected your design.. on the left hand side of the screen select the scissor picture.. adjust the tension here and you will really notice the difference.. I now always use this screen and select it to 0

hi there
I have 2 of these machines yet had the problem on only one of them..
took my machine to my dealer didnt do it.. could have killed it..
anyway left it with him and lucky it did do it..
after taking apart ect he could not find the reason for this until, along the top thread path in between 2 and 4 at the top a tiny a tiny piece of plastic had fractured.. after sanding it gently down.. my 700II has run perfect since.
My dealer did say he was really pulling his hair over this one..
so its worth a look.. I had 2 right next to each other and did not see this

Thank you. I will be off to the repairman on Tuesday. I have to travel quite a distance but it will be worth it to have it fixed. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I have had similar problems in the past and found out that due to the amount of embroidery I was doing, that the bobbin case needed to be ""defuzzed"- That is, removing all the fuzz and threads that had gathered in and around the case.

Have used damp Q-Tips, tweezers and a magnifying glass to get all of it out - usually every few projects, as needed.

Hope you get the problem solved real quick, Christie

I guess I will be off to the repairman. I have tried all of your wonderful suggestions, but I am still having problems. When I change the tension, the stitching is still a mess (a differnt kind of mess, but still a mess). Thank you all so much for taking the time to give me advice.

Bummer - perhaps the reason you cant resolve it is that the timing is out and does indeed need attention/servicing :( xXx

hrm .. I know I have this problem if I'm not paying attention and put the bobbin in up-side-down but I dont realise until the design has been sewing for quite a while and the machine jams because of the nest underneath... then when I cut the nest free I see that the bobbin is now waaaaaaay over filled (due to it being the wrong way up).

I know this drove me insane till I figured out it was something silly I'd done. Mind you I've done it so often I instantly know what went wrong if my machine jams lol.

You say that every few designs your bobbin is messing up (nesting?) and I'm wondering if it is also happening while sewing out the design right after changing a bobbin ...and popping it in the wrong way perhaps? Well without wanting to sound mean, I hope the fix for you is this simple answer. :) xXx

Thanks for the information. When the thread knots up on the back, it is the top thread pulled under and knotted. I will be sure and check the bobbin and make sure I have installed it correctly. Thank you.

Thank you for all your help! I appreciate you taking the time to give me suggestions. I will try adjusting the tension. I have done a little but have been afraid to do too much. I guess I should just bite the bullet and get busy. Thanks again everyone.

There seems to be a lot of tension problems at the moment (I wonder if it is because Christmas is creeping up on us). I have a Brother Innovos 1500D and it was working wonderfully for almoat 3 years then I decided to try doing FSL. The FSL is great but it seems to have messed up the tension for normal embroidery. Then I decided to "play" with the tension screw and if I continue with this post I may get myself banned for life with what I would like to say. I googled "Brother bobbin case adjustment" and printed out their instructions. I am letting the blood pressure come down a bit before I tackle it again. Marg

Thank you! I am having the same problems with my brother lb-6770. I got it for christmas last year. It has just started doing this. Have have gone from using the paper bobbins to winding my own, have changed my needles, and adjusted my tention. It still does it. I have even doubled up my stablizer. I thought it was just me having problems. I am really fursterated. I am finally starting to use my machine and now its making me crazy!!

I just went to the brothers webs site and one of the things I know I needed to check was my thread tension. Its been at 2 to 3. When I checked on line one of the things listed said set the tension between 4 - 5. If its that easy, i'll be shocked but its worth a try! Heres to this working for both of us.

pennifold, is that what you meant by tension playing up? That its readjusting itself?

Hello Patsy: I have a Brother SE270D, & have experienced a like problem. I believe your bobbin is not wound tight enough. Use a really tight wound bobbin. If it is doing it on a FSL, use another layer of stabilizer. I "sandwich" large left-over pieces from other designs in between new pieces of stabilizer, to make 3 layers. If it is a really dense design, use as many as 4 layers of WSS. Also, I use an Exacto Knife to cut out all of that thread, being careful not to cut the fabric & stabilizer. Works great for me! I hope this helps you. Tammy

Hi Patsy,

It sounds like the tension is playing up. I don't have one of your machines but I am sure someone on here does. Be patient and I am sure you will get a response from him or her. I'd also change your needle frequently and make sure you have enough stabiliser on the designs. Good luck with whatever eventuates. I would also be back on the phone to the people who repaired it and explain that this is still happening. If you don't get any assistance ring your Brother representative in your State and ask to speak to someone who can help you straight away. You pay a lot of money for these machines and having good service availability is paramount.

Love and blessings Chris
