I can help but not with the soap! I have horrible legs cramps at night and my Dr suggested that I try eating dill pickles. I love them but not in the middle of the night so I started drinking the juice which is mostly seasoned vinegar and it does work. Nothing keeps me from having the cramps but the vinegar from the pickle jar does work. I get the kosher dill strips and use the pickles in my salads but drink the juice from the jar beside the bed. I buy the small jars so the pickles will not dry out before I can use them. Once you take them out of the jar of juice, they do dry out fairly fast.

Please, if you find this soap in one of the shops in SA, tell me. I am staying in Somerset West in the Western Cape and I have never came across this particular soap!

My doctor told me about this - she said any type of soap seems to work - it was discussed at a conference she went to and said patients just swear by it. I have a bar of unscented Dove in my bed - so far no cramps (but only been a couple of weeks and that may just be that I have not had any spells). She said to change out the soap every three or four months.

Restless Legs Syndrome is what the doctor called what my mom had. She was given medicine but after I told her about the soap she gave it a try and after she hurt her toe on the soap that was the end of the soap. lol

I, too, have heard of this. Funny how I stumbled on it...tho. We clean 46 Luxury living/Independent apartments each week. Many of the residents have us change thier bed linens. We kept finding bars of soap between the sheets and wondered why! Finally, one of the residents clued us in to the mystery! Jim and I had a good laugh about this for a long time! :)

Our minds work in mysterious ways to help our bodies heal; so if we believe, often it works. But, medically, leg cramps, as we get older, is, generally, caused by low potassium in our bodies. Low potassium can also cause the heart to malfunction, so one is wise to have a blood test to evaluate potassium level. Foods/fruits with high potassium content may help, but a potassium supplement by prescription may be the best to feel good and not have leg cramps.

I've also heard this works. Thankfully I don't have leg cramps (yet). I've also heard it's a lack of potassium so try eating bananas.

I personally thought it was a silly idea, but my mother has a cake of soap in her bed and it works for her! Not so silly after all, it seems to work for a lot of people.

Is Irish Spring soap a particular soap? I have never heard of that : irish is "irlandais" and spring is "printemps" It is a good tip if it works.

Make sure you also check you are not hypothyroid. I had cramps in my legs for years and then one of the doctors told me it was because I was hypothyroid.

Worth a try . At least I'll have a bar of soap if it doesn't. Thanks.

by leenova54 19 Dec 2010

My Dad swears by this but a friend tried it and said it only worked for a couple of weeks. Well worth the cost of a bar of soap and if it doesn't work you can use it to bathe!

Cutting back (or eliminating) caffine from your diet will do the same! And, immediately, I am told. I am too addicted to give up my diet coke, so I am glad I don't suffer this ailment.

Where do you get the soap? I have suffered from cramps all my life - I am pretty scared of drinking too much water as it aggravates it. The best solution so far is to take a couple of PhosMag tables and STAND UP! Lying down won't allow the cramp to be relieved.
