No, it's fairly easy.
There's a tutorial for PE design (see link below), which shows you the steps to take. Have a look at it, it gives a good impression of what to do.
Using Embird make an oval and set the parameters. You could you use plain fill #1, increase the density to 40 (which gives 2 mm distance between the lines), scale 50% (which results in a stitch length of 2 mm), no underlay and the same angles as in the tutorial. Center the oval.
I usually digitise a fill like that with the angle at 0 degrees, so I can easily see the length of the stitches and the distance between the lines on the grid - easier than using the measuring tool in this case, set the angle when I'm satisfied.
Then go to Font Engine, choose the font you like, type in the letter(s) you want, place them the way you want (centered in the oval). Now select the oval and the letter, go to 'transform', then 'shaping' (near the bottom of the pull down menu), then difference. Delete the letter and there's your first layer withe hole in it. Use copy and paste, set the angle of the second layer at 135 degrees.
Convert fill to outline and set the parameters you want (satin stitch, 3 mm, density 4 - 4.5).
Make any decorations you want - like a second outline, triple stitch around the letter(s) etc.
And most important of all: test stitch!!!
See if the density is to your liking - that's easily set a bit denser or less dense.
And watch carefully when your machine is embroidering, so you can see what needs tweaking. Digitising is not finished if you have not tested your work!
Hope this helps.
May seem complicated given the amount of text, but it really is a piece of cake!
