Several of you have used the letters lol in your responses. I may be showing my age or that I'm just out of it, but what does it mean?

I'd like to share with you my favourite abbreviation from my friend in Maine, which is, ROFLMBO, and stands for Roll On (the) Floor Laughing My Butt Off! I think it says it all, I just love it!

I am looking forward to get a teenager in the house. Would be nice with someone to explain this strange spelling/ language. You get a flower for asking, and the others a flower for answering.

I haven't had a teen in the house for about 6 years so I'm really in the dark sometimes.

Clawton, don't feel bad, it's "Laughing out Loud". It came about, I'm supposing, because typing has no inflection, you just don't know if someone is serious or joking or being ironic (which is how come some people get so offended sometimes, when things are meant as a joke), so some wit came up with this little acronym to let us know it's a joke. There's another one, rotfl, or rofl, which is Rolling on the Floor Laughing. I had to ask, too, because I just thought someone else had a cat who was helping them type like mine do sometimes, LOL. OK? Hope you have lots of lol's today, Clawton, flower for you. Marji

My DD (darling daughter) texts me on our phones and the other day she sent me "K" for ok, but I didn't know that so I sent her lmnop! So you can teach an old dawg (that's dog in Georgia) new tricks. So, don't worry about not knowing. We did agree not to use abbreviations for embroidery related topics like WSS (water soluable stabilizer) remember? ;)

Sometimes it means "laughing out loud", and sometimes it mean "lots of love". If a message is read in context, then the meaning is usually clear. (For example, a note of condolence was posted on another forum, ending with "lol". The bereaved was even more upset because she only knew 1 meaning: "laugh out loud".)

Both meanings would be appropriate in most cases! Thanks

Clawton, so sorry for using letters, here's another one that we use. ROFL - rolling on the floor laughing. You should feel much younger now that you know, haha ROFL! Have a fantastic day, hugs and a flower.
