I agree with old school too. I learned to type in high school and I am much faster typing the whole word than the abbreviation because I'd have to stop and try to figure it out. I hate texting and my sister does it all the time. She said she would never get to talk to hear from her kids if it took a real phone call. Most schools don't teach penmanship anymore so we are living with a bunch of young ones whose writing you can't read. I don't have any trouble reading the messages like marji but I sure can't think of how to put it down.
Love these conversations we get into.

I have been pirating Shirlene's letters for a little while now, it is very cute so I stole it. I am very sure Shirlene doesn't mind.

Figured it out and thought how original. Maybe some of us can borrow your short cut.

looks good but I prefer to use the full words I think the children are not learning to spell because of all the short cuts

Cute, Shirlene! But I think I'm 'old school' with Ruthie, because although I can 'read' those terms easily when somebody else types them, I can't type them without thinking so hard about it makes my brain smoke, lol (being one of the few exceptions)!! I learned touch typing in high school, and have been a typist (we're now 'keyboarders', I guess) all my life in many different occupations, and I still do 90 words per minute. I just think and the words come out on the page, like auto pilot. I don't even bother using the '&' most of the time cause I'd have to shift, ha ha ha. And the text messages the kids send each other nowadays may as well be in Greek as far as I'm concerned! It's so funny, how times change. Now, you don't need to hold your hands up, ladies, but how many of you have forgotten yourselves and stuck your hand out the driver's window to signal that you were turning? That comes from learning to drive before cars had turn signals! I tried to do that the other day, & the only reason I didn't was because I couldn't find the "window crank", LOL LOL LOL. You just keep up those flowers, Shirlene, any way you want to spell them!! and a * 4 U too!

marji, I too learned to type in high school and I never have texted a soul - I have a hobby of looking at licence plates and trying to figure out what all the letters mean - so I had been typing a flower to you - to so many - that I just saw that cute little flower on the right side of the page and it looked like the * - so I shortened the rest - to look cute with it. Hehehe! Some like it - some don't - when I am in a hurry - I don't type as well as you. A flower to you.

Sweet, but I think I may be old-fashioned, I prefer to type the words out when I'm not space/character restricted. The only time I do this is with things like lol and rofl. But I have to admit it would possibly be quicker to do it Shirlene's way. Hugs and a flower to you, and have a fun day.

ruthie, you do what you want - that is what is fun about this all - maybe the more you type - the faster you get - who knows - as for me - when I was just going back through the questions and adding people - that I wanted to give a flower to - it just got easier and now - for me - I like it. Hehehe! But I may still type it out, too. Who knows. A flower for you.
