download the zipped files into a folder. i also download the jeff and pes files into the same folder. then i double click on a jeff or pes file and it brings up the embird,go through the embird steps, then highlight all the zipped files, extract the designs and delete the zipped files. then i discard the formats i do not need and convert those that i have to my formats.all the time i am doing this i can see the design and what it looks like. for exemple a dog is a dog , bird is a bird and so on. then i close embird. now this is where i get fustrated. cause when i click on the folder where all these designs are, the folder opens up and instead of seeing the designs they are all in jeff or pes design. so iif i want to see what they are i have to go back into embird. when i close embird i am back to seeing the JEFF or PES picture again. wheni had windows xp i never had this problem. i would open the folder and i would see the design or call it picture of what it was and then i could file it into my folders where they belong. like a design of a dog would go into the dog folder and the cat would go into the cat folder.now i do not know how to file these. i hope i explained this so some one could understand what i am trying to say. thank you for your help. i really dislike win 7. cause now i have all these zipped files and unzipped files in folders and no idea what i am looking at,the unzipped files only show JEFF or PES> thank you stella

I have windows 7 & Embird plus iconizer & always use windows explorer with the navagation pane open. (Computer) is much the same. To open zipped files I right click on my mouse then click on Extract all. I can see all my designs. I also keep my zipped files as I have lost designs that have become corruped. Easier to retreave

I have windows 7. The only way I actually see the designs is when in my 4D software. I was the same with XP. I can choose how I want to view the items such as thumbnails, icons, list and etc. But none actually show the design.

I just came across this site again.
They have very good Embird tutorials.

The other answers are correct its to do with embirds iconizer. I had the same problem until I worked out how to fix.
First need to ask that you have purchased this part, if you have then :-
second on your main embird program - right click-
then select compatibility - select windows xp.
you need to do this if working from windows 7 32 bit.

I had to uninstall embird and install the new version that works with Windows 7. I have had no trouble viewing the designs now. Don't forget to have on hand your password if it is a registered version of Embird. I also bought the iconizer plugin, but I don't think that I really needed it.

Hi Stella,
I agree with sewhobby.
It is the Iconizer which enables the Explorer to show pics of the design even when Embird is not opened.
I upgraded to Windows 7 lately (have 32 bit like you) and still using an old version of Embird with no problems. Windows 7 has features to simulate an XP environment in case the adjustment of the Iconizer setting fails.
I am sure you can fix this.
First I would try a complete new installation of Embird. Delete all old stuff, don't forget the registry cleaning (there is a good free helper available from piriform), when all the junk has sweped out, go for a fresh start.
Let's see if it helps.
If not we can try some other tricks.

I do have Pe-Design and cannot view/see the designs unless I am in the PE-Design program and only if the USB card reader/writer is plugged in.
I use XP on main PC and win7,32 on my laptop.
I can move any designs and file(make new folders) from within the Embroidery program.
Maybe you need to use your program Embird to open embroidery files.Somewhere it gives options to
'OPEN WITH' and you click this option to say "open all these type files with Embird.
Hope you get to solve your problem, keep us updated.
Happy unzipping!

Have you looked at the settings in Embird for the Iconizer. Be sure you have it set to display thumbnails of the formats you want to see. Or just be sure it is set to show thumbnails of all the designs. That "may" be the problem.
I have windows 7 too but with 64 bits. My iconizer wll not work, and according to Dusan at Embird, it probably won't work. He didn't think the 32 bit system had the same problem. Why not write to them and ask for help. Go to their website, Embird.com and find a way to contact them. I really miss the little thumbnails and being able to tell what a design is.
Here is the web address http://embird.com/ At the very bottom of the page is a place to CONTACT US. They are in another part of the world, so be a little patient and give them time to get back to you. They may very well be asleep when we are awake. Good luck. Linda
