My husband wanted me to make something he could give away to neighbors at an open house. I was busy with other Christmas gifts so I sat him down in front of my Janome 300E and gave him a quick lesson on hooping, threading, bobbin winding etc. He chose the design, bought the felt. I chose the thread (a metallic but it didn't misbehave). And off he went. He works out of town and so several of our phone calls that week were about what do I do next. hehe. It was fun. The first night he called while starting the design. I told him now it should go on the second design. Well he hadn't selected the design where I had put two designs in one hooping. Minor mishap. He had the top of the bobbin break off and the thread was so tangled he had to throw it all away. And so he had to buy me more bobbins. He ran out of thread and had to buy more (it was ON SALE at Hancocks!!!) He had very few thread breakages. I think he did a great job. Now I don't think he will so impressed with my embroidery. lol These don't have them but I added ribbon loops to the ones we gave away. Becky

I am so impressed with his results! He did a fantastic job with these! Sometimes it's better to just jump right in. Since he had a few issues, I'm sure he has a little more respect for what you do. It's not as simple as it sounds. My ddil says the machine does all the work. She's never seen the thread breaks, needle breaks, designs I had to throw away, thread nests, etc.
Your hubby should be very proud of himself. He did a lot of work and he did it well. I can tell you're proud of him too!! I'll bet the ones who recieved the gifts were doubly impressed when they found out he made them himself. He's a keeper! Congrats to both of you!

It is not as simple as just pushing a button. We/he is already planning to use gramsbear's snowflake names to make ornaments for our grandchildren. Then they will have something from Grandpa.

Shirlene, he made 46 in all. My husband will try anything once. Only the first phone called showed any stress. After he got the first stocking completed he had more confidence. :)

that is fantastic - he should have confidence with that many behind him or under his belt - as they say.

His is willing to try any thing. He is my "worst" enemy at the cloth store as he will have as many ideas as me so he doesn't curb my fabric stashing. :) He is so supportive of all my addictive hobbies.

He did a great job, But you have created a monster.
When my husband who is retired couldn't find anything to do I showed him how to sew. He loves it. Our only problem is we have one dongle for the software and we seem to both need it at the same time.

He is very supportive. This past weekend he watched me as I struggled to complete a burp cloth for him. The alphabet did funny stitching (letters floated out of line), there were 26 color changes. He was content to just help me look for the next color change.

Very good! Kill 2 birds with one stone, keep him busy and productive! I'll bet he really feels good for the accomplishment too!

Yes I think he does feel good about his accomplishment but I think he will still let me have all the 24 color change designs. hehe

I do embroidery for him all the time but this time I just couldn't and still get presents made for our granddaughters. If he didn't do it--it wasn't going to be done. :)
