had his pic made in that was in her living room forever that he has now. he gave it to me and said" make me something out of it "and I don't have a clue as to what to do. I want something special and working it into a quilt just doesn't seem to fit because their not enough to make it stand out as the star of the quilt. kitchen stuff is out because it not heat safe polyester melt so quickly.

You have been given some really great ideas. Do let us know what you decide to do with the fabric

How about a photocopy of the picture for a pocket on an apron? Then trim some dish towels with some of the fabric or make a pot holder. Even if he never uses them(to prevent them from getting dirty) He could frame them for the kitchen.

If you don't mind cutting it, I would trim it into the shape of a shirt, using scraps to lay on a collar and pocket perhaps. add buttons down the front and applique it to a pillow, a pillow case, put into a shadow box, etc. Isn't it nice to hear of a young man that is even a little bit sentimental?!! Have you ever tried printing photos onto Ink Jet Printable fabric? I did it once and used fabric around the picture, in a small wall hanging. Perhaps you could use the photo of him [in the shirt], and do something similar with your scrap of fabric.

To be able to preserve the 12 inch square for a keepsake, I would consider using it within or as a
picture frame. A photo of him at age two wearing the
shirt (if you still have the photo), or any favorite
photo of him and/or granny would make it special along
with the fabric in a frame. Just a thought!

I'd be asking him if he wants something to use or something to look at, first. Framed with other additional memory reminders would be great if you can get a deep enough frame. It would be better preserved in a frame, but if he wants to really be using it, a pillow type idea would be perfect -and a whole lot quicker than a quilt!

I would use it as the background in a frame with the picture of him and maybe one of your granny. I would have to be certain of what I wanted to do with it before I cut it or embroidered on it. Men aren't usually sentimental, so I would be take my time coming up with the perfect project.

How about cutting it into the shape of a shirt pillow and adding information in embroidery, such as dates ect.. These are actually cute on beds.

How about made into a laptop sleeve,if he has one. My DS loves the quilted bags I made for his external hard drives (They cushion them when he checks them in at the airport)
Happy stitching

How about cutting it into a star and then sewing it onto a piece of material and hanging it from a dowel with ribbon to hang on the wall?

If you do a pillow, try using that fabric scarp as the center and build from there. Or, if you can put something special to him and his grandma on the scarp and frame it he could hang with the picture of him that evidentally was a prize picture for his grandma. I did some memory boxes with remnants that I got from my parents home when they both passed and they are special to us.

How about a pillow? You could put a border around it if you want it larger. Actually the back of the pillow could be the focus, and the special square be the secret feature on the other side and sort of unspoiled.
