How many of you are still looking for a better way to store your bobbins?

What do you do when you have as many bobbins as you do thread? I tried several storage suggestions but wasn't happy with any of them so came up with my own bobbin storage. And I'm happy with the bobbins hanging next to it's threads and it's easy to match thread to bobbin!

You can find inexpensive fiberboard in office supply/ crafting stores and in a range of colors.

Using the fiberboard, cut two shapes the size you want. You have an advantage of making lo--ng thin hangers to fill an odd shaped area.

Use a ruler and draw lines 1" apart from top to bottom, on of one of the shapes. Now place one shape on the other and begin inserting straignt pins along the lines and 1" apart from each other.

Using a nail, make a 'hanging' hole in the center top, hang your bobbin holder! Hope you enjoy!

This is a very good idea. I don't know about the light affecting the life of the thread, but one thing I have encountered is that when left in the open, it gets dusty. Which I don't like. I've put all of my thread in storage boxes, but still in the light. I would love to know more about this. Thanks for sharing.

Dolly, they look great. Well done. I have all my threads in closed cupboards, and the bobbin holders in plastic holders in a draw, right under were my machines are. - Hugs Yvonne

Hi all, since we are on this subject. How do you keep the threads from just hanging down and tangling up? I love the thread holders that you all have. Just with my spools the thread just hangs down and tangles with each other. Need advice on keep thread close to the spool.

On myembroiderymentor.com there is a video that is very helpful if you want to tidy up your threads. Hope this helps. Judy

All I do is have a short piece of tape on each spool of thread but you can't do this with the bobbins.

I use covered ponytail bands...the kind that are sold at the dollar store or Walmart. Lots of bands for little $$. All different colors and they fit around spools or bobbins. They tend to stretch out after awhile, so they graduate to a spool when they are too big for the bobbin. Linda

This look a great idea. Is it in a closed cupboard. The reason I ask is that I have been told that machine embroidery thread needs to be kept out the the light to give it the longest possible storage life before us? Any one else heard of this advice.

This is a great idea! I already use fiberboard to hold my hoops and "idea pictures" and some trial designs. I travel a lot and the fiberboard either goes with me or I buy a new piece (usually about $1.50 on sale). Thanks for the pics!!* Laura

Your sewing room - or the sewing wall) looks nice, tidy and very organised, the boards look great and I could do with odd shaped ones (meaning long and narrow), but I am sure I never get those pins in under the same angle all over the board. Mine would look like my threads were seriously drunk!!
