I too use prewound bobbins... I love them) My machine (Brother) came with an insert to put in the bobbin case to make up the height difference between the prewound bobbin height and the normal bobbin height.

I dont use prewound ones i have a brother 1500D machine and only use brother bobbin thread and wind them on my machine i try and do a heap at a time. But i am new to embroidery so maybe i will slacken off in time and try prewound ones. happy sewing all :)

I always use the prewound. If I had to wind bobbins, I couldn't sit at my computer while the machine was running....Girl, you missed 30 minutes of surfing! ;)

Yes, I use prewound ones unless I want the bottom to be the same color. I wind my own colored ones since it may vary often. I use the plastic sided ones. You want to be sure that they are contineous wound. However, I have been told not to reuse the prewound bobbins.

Hi raels, I use the prewound bobbins all the time (only the plastic ones. ) As long as you use the right size bobbins they are great. Here's a flower for you on a nice day. P. S I know what you mean about winding your bobbins that is what
I do for the Sewing Machine bobbins . I have plastic boxes of bobbins ready to sew. ( makes it much easier. )

I have never used prewound bobbins,so I can't help you there. My Bernina 730e machine will wind bobbins while I am embroidering. So between thread changes, I'm winding bobbins and I never run out.

I have a side winder (byWright). I wind the bobbins for my next project while I am sewing out the current one. So quick and easy makes a lovely smooth bobbin. I buy cones of bobbin thread...save a bundle by doing this. prewound are nice but no nicer than home wound.

I have a Baby Lock Esante and it like both prewound and it's own. The only thing is you have to use the spacer that came with my machine when using a prewound because they're a little shorter. Flowers

This is about all I use. I usually try to purchase mine by the gross, since what I usually use is white bobbin thread, has worked well for me. I wound more bobbin yesterday I think than in the past year, and that is because my project was all done in one color and the back side will show. I too found that you get longer "bobbin life" by using prewound bobbins.

Yes, very very important that the bobbins you buy are for your machine! I got a free sample, I didn't really pay attention to the 'size' because it looked the same, but it was a tiny bit shorter than Janome bobbins & caused no end of problems. I have a Janome regular sewing machine, too, and wind bobbins on that for my embroidery machine, like Ruthie. I don't mind winding bobbins at all, but I do find that if I don't pay really close attention, the bobbin thread being thinner, silkier, that regular sewing thread, I sometimes waste a lot getting it caught around the spindle instead of on the bobbin. Pre-wound are convenient, but make sure they're the right ones. My Janome dealer doesn't sell me stuff I don't need, but she did request that if I do get pre-wound, to please get the plastic ones right for my machine, whether I get them from her or on line. I guess it's like anything, you get what you pay for. I'm always skittish of 'bargain' anything, unless it's a name brand sale, because things are cheap for a reason, and I don't want to be the one to find out the reason! LOL. Happy bobbin winding. Have you had problems with the card board causing "dust" in the bobbin case? I have a few that came free when i purchased thread, but really do not like to use them unless I have to.

jrob by jrob 02 Mar 2008

dlonna, you can pull the cardboard sides off and they work just fine. That's what I do.

I have never tryed the prewound bobbins. I did buy the SideWinder.portable bobbin winder. It work great for all my bobbins. Now I can embroidery or sew,and wind bobbins at the same time. My instruction manuel did not speak will of prewound bobbins. Hugs and flowers.

When my hubby surprised me with my machine he also brought home some thread and pre-wound bobbins. I thought they were great and had no problems with them. They are all empty now but my regular sewing machine is set up next to the emb. machine so I wind everything on it. I was told to make sure the bobbins are for your machine type so there are no problems. There is a bobbin winding machine that I've seen offered online but they are so popular that they seem to have problems getting their orders filled and keeping them in stock.

I have used prewound, and had both good ones and awful ones. You really have to avoid the "bargain" kind, since I had some that the thread was in multiple pieces (10+) on the same bobbin. Also, I recommend that you go for the cardboard sided ones or perhaps the reusable plastic ones if/when you give them a try. The sideless ones have a glue on them to hold the thread in place, and that can gum up your machine. Some people have no problems with them, but I would rather be safer than sorry.

I have used sideless prewounds on three different machines with great results for years!

When I bought my Janome Raels, they gave me some prewound, telling me that I could mess my embroidery up if I wound them myself, also I would get twice as much thread on the prewound as on manual ones!!! Well guess what Raels, I wind my own - and they've never messed my embroidery, and I get just about the same amount of thread on both. I wind mine on my sewing machine - while my embroidery machine works away on it's own (the two machine sit side by side), I find it isn't such a chore that way. Hugs and flowers.

Does winding them on other machine make a difference. I thought they might not be the same tension

ruthie by ruthie 02 Mar 2008

Doesn't seem to matter what machine I wind them on Raels.

Ruthie, I must have the best Janome dealer in the world! I do wish you could all come to her! She is certainly successful, because they've just opened store #2, but doesn't 'push' anything, just tells the truth & lets you decide for yourself. She wants (& gets) happy customers & more return business than she can handle some days. I've heard so many bad 'dealer' stories, I just wanted you to know there's good ones out there too. Marji

This is funny. I am doing the same thing. I have done 42 and am sick of hearing it. Now let's make something...I was considering using pewound but my husband bought me 50 for Valentines day...neat gift Huh? He is so funny. I think i would have liked the prewound but I guess that it is not in the cards.

Yes, Raels, I have used the Janome pre-wound. They're great, smooth wind, sew good, no problems. Only thing is the cost factor. Sometimes I just don't have the $. Happy sewing. Marji
