Zip files and rar files are compressed files. Puts things together and makes a smaller size file. You need a program to extract those files. I use 7zip-found through earlier discussions here. You can do a search for those and read more, if you want. &zip installs, and it's easy to use.
I right click on the highlighted rar file, a menu opens, I choose 7zip, then there are choices of what to do, I opt for "extract here". The files appear in the window, then I delete what I don't want, plus the original rar file.

I don't know how it works but if I add .zip to the end of the file name it changes to a regular zip file and I can open it....most of the time.

rar - is a "zip file" Trying going to this site and it is a free download - even though I had windows it would not allow me to open a rar file until I downloaded from this site. Good luck.

If you have windows, just right click on the rar file and it will give you options to unzip it.

Rar is something like zip: a condensed format and you can 'unrar' just as you can 'unzip'. If you google 'rar' you'll find free software to open those files; in most cases the same programme can unzip as well.
