Very pretty and well done. I bet she really liked it! It brings back memories from when I used to make dresses for my daughters proms. Now I have 3 grandsons! So the tie info might come in handy for them! They are only 2, 4 and 6 right now. Where can I get the info on the tie?
It was a tie tip from Nov.2007 sewing Savvy pg 84. Cut on Bias,
If tie interfacing isn't available in your area, disassemble an old tie and "harvest" the inner structural materials.
Take care not to stretch the bias-cut fabric during construction, or the resulting tie may have diagonal pull lines. This is the info. I got my ties at the Good-Will store, yard sale, it was just a used tie.and as I took it apart I took pictures of the old tie then made a pattern and marked all the creasing so I could refold the tie and sew it back together. I hope this helped.
I used to make ties in the 1970's. They all had that wool woven type interfacing. Can't remember the proper name. I never got beyond giving to all male family members. I never asked what they did with them as I did not want to know. Actually some looked really good. I used silk fabric that my sister brought back from France. I guess they would be called vintage now. Great job on the dress. I have made many formals for my daughter also. had a nervous breakdown with each one!!!! Kay
The ones I got at the good will had that wool woven interfacing in them and they were in three pieces. This dress I made my own pattern for the top. It was make out of muslin for fit and adjust the fit. Then instead of interfacing and lining I had to cut three front pieces out so it would lay very nice. I was so a afraid it would look home made.
Beautiful you really did wonderful ON this the tie is wonderful I would love to know how to make ties.
FIESTA...Isn't it GREAT to be able to sew for little of nothing ;D *2U

What a cute couple. Excellent work with the dress and tie...and what a huge saving.
Girl, you are gooooooooood!! I'll bet Paige dreams of the next big occasion for you to make her another dress for! One lucky girl, I hope she realizes it.
I hope this time she lets me know more than a week before the dance. thank you Sue
you did a fabulous job. I can remember the first matching skirts that I made for my daughters. Ha it was a strip of fabric that I cut by hand eyeballed it & added a "ruffle" in the middle, again eyeballed it,( I use the terms loosely) inserted an elastic for the waist, sewed the"hem" & then up the side! They were "cute" but they couldn't sit down!ha they remember them too!
Great job! Love the tie too...I used to sew my daughters dresses too. Now she sews Irish Dance Dresses for her daughters and others also.
the dress and tie are to die for....hope they liked being so cute for Homecoming....you sound like me, making instead of buying....it looks wonderful....
Will you know how you try to give the kids what they want. Must save every dime that we can these days.
Great work! The dress is beautiful, nice looking couple :)
