As I said in answer to your other question, the only thing like this that I know of is a "basting" needle. The bobbin hook will miss catching the thread in the top eye every other stitch, so it results in an extra long stitch (exactly what you want when you are basting something). I guess that you could try it in your embroidery machine and see if it catches every stitch or not, and if it does, it would work just fine for combining two different threads in one stitch. Of course, if it "skips" like the ones I've used intended, don't even try to embroider with it. You would wind up with a design you would be very unhappy with. =]
dlmds, I believe after all - you did make your question clear - I have never heard of this - it is new for me - I look forward to using or finding one to use - it sounds like it is used just like the twin needle. Hope to see a project up with the use of this - real soon. *'s 4 all.
I will ask when I go back to my dealers, see what they say. And I hope katydid will also let us know. H. *.
I confess, I bought a pack at my dealer's store. They are made by Schmetz and are called double eye needle # 705 DE. The size is 80/12. On the back of the pk, it says the needle is for decorative seams with decorative threads. The picture on the front gives the look of variegated thread. I have not played with it, so I can't say whether i would recommend or not.
Yes,katydid, they are Schmetz needles. Please let all of us know how they work. H. *.
Wow, something new for me. I never saw one of these, did you see it at a sewing store? That has lots of possiblilties, I think. I wonder if you could use it for embroidery, because 2 threads might be awfully thick, unless you got some thinner weight embroidery thread. But I'm envisioning like your own 'varigated' look, with any 2 colors you wanted. I hope somebody knows something about this, D, I like what I'm imagining! Luv, Marji
