I had the same problem with my first design and it continued with the second until i lessened the tension on the top thread then it worked fine, now it's the first thing i check. I am using cheaper threads and they seem to sew out really well as long as i adjust the tension for each thread as some colours aren't as good as others. Cheers, Meganne
I would agree with many other here that the thread was old. Always be sure that you are using thread made for machine embroidery.
Thank You everyone for such good answers & solutions. I knew I could count on on all of you . Flowers all around.
nglover, one rule that I was taught is always buy top quality items, these are your tools to do a job that is better than what you can see at the discount stores. I am not saying that the thread that you bought is cheap, but make sure that you have embroidery thread and not just sewing thread. There are spools of thread that are just old, if you use this in another project and it continues to happen, it is easier to buy another spool of thread than to waste your time, cutting out the mess and re-stitching for that one color. A flower for you.
This was embroidery thread poly. I usually buy my thread from Marathon.Good quality , Only buy Walmarts in a tight. Thanks for the info. and here is a flower for you.
I am glad to know that you do buy good embroidery thread. Always do it, look ahead and stock up. Thanks!
Put it in a plastic bag in the freezer for a couple of hours. Usually works. Spray it lightly with a furniture polish like Mr Min (thats what we have here) and let it dry that worked for me too.
I read somewhere that placing your spool in the freezer for a little while can add some moisture to the thread. I tried it with a few old spools that where given to me but I haven't use them yet! It doesn't cost musch to give it a try! Danie
I heard that too, but I also heard that putting it in the freezer dries it out the same way it does meat, which kind of makes more sense to me. Let us know which it is. ;)
It depends on whether your freezer is a frost-free or a manual defrost model. The frost-free type will dry things out (meat, thread, etc) while the manual defrost doesn't do that.
Oops, hit 'enter' when I didn't mean to. My typing is *awful* today! Answer to the thread question. You might have gotten an 'old' spool of thread, if it's only happening with the pink. Thread should be kept out of the sun, and away from heaters that will dry it out. This time of year I have more thread breaks generally, because the furnace is drying out the air, and the thread with it. I even had trouble with my Floriani & Robison-Anton, which are some of the best, and came from my dealer, so I'm pretty sure it's the heat. My solution was to take the thread rack into the bathroom when I took a shower, hoping to 'steam' some moisture back into it. Seemed to work fairly well, not having so much of a problem now. Could be a coincidence, though, because I never heard of this solution. Good luck, I know that can be really frustrating after you've rethreaded the dingbusted thing for the 23rd time! Marji
ok, Marji, I barely have time to take a shower myself, much less having to bathe my thread! hahaha
You're too cute, Jrob. I had to, the cats were starting to wash me.....Marji
Nglover, computer question first: there seems to be a limited number of characters for questions. Watch the box as you're typing, it will tell you how many characters you have left. If not enough, write, "continued inside", and continue your question as an answer to your question, like you did here.
One reason thread splits and breaks is the size of the needle. The whole needs to be a % bigger than the thread. If it is too small it cause excess rubbing and breaking. These machine run very fast maybe you can adjust your speed down to accommidate the friction. Find a good needle chart and check out the weight of the thread for your needle size.
Here is an excellent affordable source. I'm in NC a lady in Washington State tole me about this. It is about 12 miles from my home. I go very often. My friend recommended it as an internet source. I can the thread myself. http://www.longcreekmills.com/
Sometimes you just get a bad spool. I don't know what walmart sells, maybe coats and clark or sulky. Either should be ok.
I had problems with thread breaking the last weeks. Big surprise the problem was finished after I decided to change the bobbin house. The tension in the new one was a little higher/tighter and that seemed to solve the problem. I dont understand why, I would imagine it would be the other way around. Normally I would change to a new needle 90, when I have problems.
I bought some of my threads at Walmart but I don't have your problem, but I bought some from JoAnn and I can not use them. I don't know if this matter but the threads that I bought at Walmart are polyester and form JoAnn are rayon. Flower
I don't know what happened but computer wouldn't let me finish. Have any of you had this problem and what did you do?
What kind of brand of thread, needle, stabilizer, and fabric are U useing? All of these make a difference. Tension also comes in play. Is your bobbin area clean? Hugs and*.
It worked fine with another spool of thread. I wondered if Walmart thread was the problem.
I'd venture to say it was that particular spool of thread and it was probably old.
At cute, questions are only allowed to have so many characteristics. Answers seem to allow an unlimited amount of characters.
