Did you know that embroidery machines need surge protection? AND if your laptop is connected to your machine you must make sure it is connected to your battery backup as well. Please do this!!!!!

Jude, thanks for the info. I have the ups's, but I should remember to unplug the sewing machine. Problem is, then I'd forget it was unplugged & drag it back to the dealer cause it wasn't working, LOL! Read your profile, I have fibro & am disabled, too. If you ever want to talk, let me know, we can chat other than bother these ladies. Thanks for the heads up! Marji

I'm glad you found the info useful. I'd like to talk with you too, but I'm not sure how we can get together without publishing email addresses to the whole world. Any ideas?

Thanks for reminding us. I have my whole system on surge protection as well as a backup system. If I'm away I even unplug my sewing machine. I'd be lost without it as well as the computer.

My dealer told us not to even plug the machine in without a serge protector. Is this not enough? Do I need to unplug when not in use?

You shouldn't have to. But I get nervous about it since it is a big investment.

The reason you'd want to put your machine on a UPS (Battery Backup) is this: Especially on newer machines you are probably connected directly to your computer via a USB cable or network hub. If lightning strikes or a power surge happens, electricity can flow through these types of cords too. If you are working wirelessly you would still need a good quality surge protector. The theory when you wet the wiring up for your whole system is to make an enclosed ring of plugs from the accesorys to the battery backup and you'll be safe. Hope this explanation helped!

There's an edit to my previous comment:

You don't wet the wiring up for the whole system.

You set the wiring up for the whole system.

I think we all know what wetting the system would do..."poooooooof....up in smoke"

A good reminder to us all

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT....we should start unplugging our unused appliances, TV's, rechargables, just to save energy. But if we do that on our computers, we have to make sure we get your automatic updates before we use our machine for the day, or end could end up in a huge mess. Those 0-day viruses and spybots can stop your machine dead in their tracks.

Good information aqualight. We all need that reminder - we have UPS protectors on my machine, computer, our TV. When we do loose power we have beeps all over the place. Thanks for the reminder to all of us.

I live just outside of Tampa Florida- The Lightning Capitol of the World - at least that's what the weathermen keep telling us. In the spring, the lightning is so bad I feel like it's inside the house. So we even have protection on the refrigerator and central air conditioner. When the battery backups go off I feel like there are trucks backing up all over the house!!!!! So to avoid it, I just turn off everything if I know a storm is coming.

You should also unplug your machine when it is not in use. Electricity still runs to it. But then we don't turn them off for long. :)

Thank you letvia.

I really don't want anybody losing their machines or computers because of electricity or lightning strikes backing through their systems. This even goes for networking devices and phone lines. They all have to be connected to the battery backup or everything could go "poof".

Recently I had two hard drives go "poof" because I forgot one simple plug.

Thanks again for the welcome :)
