Great idea.....I got a ton of nets from a florist, some flowers are shipped with the little nets on them to protect the blooms. She just gave them to me and they work wonderfully. Worth it to ask?
I meant, yours was a great idea, and here is another one....didn't word that well.
Very good idea. Thread loss can be extensive with unruly threads getting tangled. Will look for mesh when next shopping. Thanks
This is a great idea. I once had my thread go into the wheel but I was lucky enough to find it and get it out before it caused a problem. from Arlene
Thanks. So easy to make and then I wouldn't have to mess around with Amazing Tape or other stuff.
Yeah, great idea. US CE if you find this let us know where. I like that idea. I've been using elastic pony tail holders, and they leave something to be desired, most of the time.
I have wondered if the mesh that vegetables come in from the grocery could be used to make the nets.. Where did you buy the net Fabric?
Well done! I lost a whole reel from a loose thread the vacum caught and next thing I know a whole reel gone! Where did you buy the netting? Sally
A brilliant idea!!!
1936, florzinhas.
Miga como é que nós vamos fabricar esta camisinha de cone de linha? Será que tem aqui um material parecido? Pensei em tule mas não é firme.
e mais uma flor
Great idea !
I use a mini peg to hold the net to avoid that sort of incident !!
This is sure a smart idea! Thanks for sharing with us! You come up with some of the best ideas for all of us to learn from! I would never had thought of doing this. Happy Holidays to you and your family! Linda
What an awesome idea. This is why I love this site so much. What one cutie doesn't think of, the next one does. I can't think of anywhere else that I have learned "sew" many tips and tricks and I have been sewing for many many years! Thank you!
Cheers, Frannie
Hi Meganne
That was a great idea for your thread nests, I just wanted to pass on to all the ladies, the netting that is around garlic works wonderful too. It is free, but you only get enough at one time to make 3... and no sewing. So for anyone who buys garlic in the netting, it is a great idea.
Meganne what a lovely I dea I do have some spools of thread that has to have a cover you sew with it or it all falls down the spool and puddles at the bottom it is a real shiney thread that was purchased form a factory that went out of bussiness it was used on little girls dresses.
Thanks to all who gave insight to this. I love all you cutes. Meganne A Big Thank You. I am going to the flower shop early in the morning and ask for all the neting she get in.
What a neat idea.
I'll have to check my local florist and see if she has extra nets.
third time's a charm...... LOL!
Sorry the link didn't work Mary so have added it below for you.
Great idea! I thought the net was for the bobbins. Couldn't figure out what purpose it served since they were loose. I just thought it was to keep your bobbins together. HEHEHE. All of you Cuties are just great. Flowers to U
If you read the posts in Community

TTT for all newbies to view.
The netting I used is very soft and one way stretch.
I leave them on my spools, all the time, as it prevents unravelling, especially the Rayon threads. So far none of the nets have stretched and they are still holding firm even on spools where I am almost to the end of the thread.
great Idea! I have only been part of cutie for a short time. I had been thinking of purchasing the ready made, Now I won;t have to I am so excited. Thanks for the idea.

I made mine out of my GS old t-shirts, serged the same way...They work fine and I am recycling!!!!Ok, not to say I can not afforded to spent the money, LOL.****
I managed to buy some stretchy netting which was sold made up into a long tube and just had to cut it into size for my thread
It works very well
Yvonne
Thank you for sharing Meganne. A friend of mine here in Kansas works at a florest shop where they get in frest flowers. The roses come with stretch covers looks like this. She has brought me a LOT of them for my thread. They are great
Meg, Thats a wonderful idea... U did a great job too... (((HUGS))) & Flower 4U...
Sam :)
Thank you for the great idea Meg, it will surely help save my threads from birdnest syndrome.
Hello Everyone,
I am new to this group and read about the nets. Very interesting idea.
I get mine at the local florist, she just gives me a handful.. try that for your netting. There are no seams and works like a charm.

A great idea ! My granddaughter loves to put my thread nets on her arms for bracelets.........so my nets are all stretched too much. She knows NOT to do that anymore ! I hope I can find the stretch netting. WalMart, maybe ?
Thanks for sharing that with everyone Meganne. I will make some of them for when I get my new machine in about two weeks. It will also help to keep them tidy and keep the dust out.
Thank you for sharing Meganne. Where fo you buy the stretchy net > I love in Aussieland
I also looking for some and have not found it yet .Iwill net you know if i do
I bought mine at a material store, not Spotlight, but Spotlight should have it too. it's just soft stretchy netting, not the stiff kind.
hugs, M
If you can't find any, email me with how much you want and I will get it here for you both and send to you.
hugs, M
My problem is i change the netting (purchased ones) from one spool to another and find that it doesn't stay firm and actually looses its shape and therefore doesn't keep the cotton tension right. I came up with the netting plus a piece of velcro applied around top of spol over the netting, this seems to work for me. You know i have only been having thread tension problems this past 6 months, and only on some thread. Nver had to use netting etc before. Maybe i need a service. LOL to u and thanks for the tip
So Meg, how is the netting holding up - after this length of time - is it stretching out at all or loosing it's shape?
No, doesn't lose its tension because I don't have to change from spool to spool. Mind you, I haven't had a machine to use so my threads are just sitting waiting to be used. One thing i advise is to leave the stitched seam on the outside otherwise it can make the thread feed a bit jerky.
Thank you for this great idea, i'm going to make me some very soon. Mary
Great idea. I was wanting to do something but had not looked into it. This will make it possible to leave the netting on the spools especially those you use ofter.
Certainly glad someone brought this to the top. I don't remember seeing it back in March.
Thank you so much for your info. I am using the Hugo tape but it is such a pain taking it off and replacing it so often. It really gets to be a pain. First trip into town I shall be buying the netting. Can't wait to get stared on them. You area sanity saver if not a life saver....LOL
Great idea. Thanks for sharing. I am like Jerilyn. I will have nightmares until I make me some. :-) *4U
Great idea Meganne. Making so many you can leave them on in storage instead of switching them around as I do. Now to find some netting.
I once had the dangling end of a cone of bobbin thread sucked in by the hand wheel. Did not notice at all until the hand wheel flew off. Guess I was very lucky, I could just shove the stuff off the axle and push the hand wheel back on. From your story I now realize it could have been far worse than loosing a lot of bobbin thread.
hallo , kun je me zeggen waarom ze dit gebruikt , dat zit ook bij mijn machine maar heb het nog nooit gebruikt.
groetjes Annita
What an excellent idea! I usually use hair ties but as the cotton gets lower, they don`t hold it. Thankyou for the great tip and I will be making some as well...Thanks again....*4u
This is a wonderful idea but where do you buy the netting you use. I have not seen stretchy netting in the stores? Flowers to you for a great tip.
In Australia we still have some haberdashery stores that specialise in materials and crafts, if you have those where you live, go to the netting section and look for soft netting. Pick the kind that, if you pull on it diagonally it will stretch but it is lovely and soft, and fairly closely woven, don't buy the stiff kind. hope this helps, hnr, M
Thanks meganne, i'll be buying some of this net and making nets.*4u
What an excellent idea!!!! Thanks so much for letting us all know *4u
Thanks everyone, if it saves even one person from unravelling then it makes me happy :-) roses for all, Meganne
meganne, we can all learn from you years of sewing and we can't wait for all the new projects that you will make with your new embroidery machine. Thank you - *4U
perfect I was trying to come up with something to hold the unruly ones now I have it. Thanks and * for you. quiltgrama
Very clever - and this would work for the unruly thread while it is being used!
Great idea, but I could have done without the horror story. Now I shall have nightmares! hehehe;)
Forewarned is forearmed as they say, but i hope you make some then you can have lovely 'safty' dreams instead. LOL! I would never have given a thought to this kind of thing happening and it sure made me wary. cheers, Meganne
great Idea, I'll have to write this down in my note book. thanks for sharing. *4u, and all
This is a wonderful idea. Thank you for sharing. Definitely I will try it. Flower and XoXo
This is what I really like to see...someone coming up with a better way to do something. I really don't like the net material because my thread still gets caught on with it think is a very caustic material.
Kudos to you....and of course a*4U 2. :)
There were so many different types of net available, this netting is a very soft one, not at all scratchy, and i made sure the stretch is across the width not the length. They work so well it doesn't even matter if you have the stitched seam on the inside or the outside. flowers to all. cheers, Meganne
Meganne, thank you for this wonderful tip. My what a horror story. I will be much more careful, I do use a net, something that I picked up from a florest friend of mine. I use them on all my spools. A flower for you.
