Yayyy! I'm celebrating, too, with a borrowed flag for the day, thanks to hightechgrammy.
Just couldn't let Australia Day pass without letting our land of 'droughts and flooding rains' know this Aussie is thinking of her and will be returning soon.
I hope that it's OK to 'borrow' the flag for one day.

Happy Australia Day! My wife and I are planning on visiting Australia at the end of the year. Don in TX
I am American and I LOVE Australia too! Aussie have always fought right beside Americans. Every Aussie I've known has a wonderful spirit and loves to laugh at life when life gets tough! No Worries " .... Give me a home among the gum trees with lots of plum tree, a sheep or two and a kangaroo, Veranda out the back ... "Do you know that song? And of course I cried for days when Steve Irwin died. A friend of mine recorded that song, if you'd like to have it PM me your email and I'll send you his mp3. Happy Australia Day, Mateys
I hope it's OK to borrow your picture but I couldn't resist it and Australia Day is well on the way to being over now.

We are going to the Australia Day breakfast tomorrow morning and our DIL is receiving an award for services rendered to a local committee.
That's exciting. Congratulations to her and good on you for bringing up such a great citizen!
Congrats! It's nice to know other folks are proud of their country besides the USA! (Which I am proud to be living in). No country is perfect and we still have good things each country has to be proud of. Good for you! I hope you celebrate it and enjoy the day!

I'm feeling a tad homesick right now!!!!
I want an Aussie flag avatar for Australia Day but I don't have my photo program on this little borrowed laptop. You'll all have to believe me that no matter how far I wander and no matter how far I roam I'll always be an Aussie and I still call Australia home.
Watch Out, Australia!!! I'm returning on February 4!!!!
AlmaG.
I'd upload one for you if I could Alma, but alas, only you can do it with your password.
Enjoy our day, no matter where you are.
hugs n gumnuts, Meganne
Like the new avatar and it's quit fitting for Australia Day. Hope you and all aussies have a great celebration. Are you planning on doing anything special? Hugs,Sis
11:35 pm and we've just got home from a day of working at Possum Lodge, so one thing's for sure,,,,, we'll be having a sleep in tomorrow. LOL!!!
Maybe we'll have some lamb chops, sprinkled on one side with salt, pepper and curry powder, then grilled until the fat is crispy, some nice ripe red tomatoes, lettuce and fresh bread and butter, followed by rock melon (cantaloupe to you) soaked in Tia Maria and topped with a whopping great scoop of creamy vanilla ice-cream.
Hugs n gumnuts, SIS
Meganne,Happy Australia Day! Enjoy the celebrations.Stella
That is so cool. I wondered why Alice aka fannyfurkin had changed her avatar. Hope you all have a wonderful celebration!

My son went backpacking in Australia Dec '93 to Dec '94 with a friend. Now that they are both 40 they are going to your country in 2 weeks time, just the 2 of them, visiting old friends and places. I wish I could take the same flights and stay for 3 weeks too! Would I love to meet you all!
Happy Australia day!
OH Martine it would have been awesome if you could've come too. I'd have been at the airport waiting for you!!!
Maybe one day???
HUgs and gumnuts, Meganne
I wish you all a Happy Australia Day. I wish I were able to come visit your country. I think it would be a very interesting tour. Plus I might even get to meet some of you cuties!! Hugs, Mary
Shirlene, here is meganne's answer....hopefully I have upload correctly...if not is was lindalee757 who posed the question that meganne answered
AW thanks Sally, I searched and searched and couldn't find it. I probably could've re-written the answer in the time I spent searching. Only thing was I couldn't remember exactly what I had written. LOL!!!!
So Marg, you prefer to think of the world this way???? LOL!!!!
I am proud to say "I come from the land down-under", it is instantly recognisable as meaning Australia and no other country in the world is called or known so affectionately.
Most Australians I have met don't feel particularly patriotic about their country, (especially when compared to Americans), until they travel overseas or something phenomenal happens that unites us. Oh, I am sure it is there, but we just don't seem to show it.
I love that song, "I Come From the Land Down-under", it ranks up there with "I Still Call Australia Home", both of them choke me up and if you ever heard either of them, when you are far, far, away from home, I think you would change your mind about being called the "land down-under".
It is a term of endearment to make one proud.
I love Australia, it is the best country in the world, bar none. The others are nice to visit, but here is where I was born and here is where I will be buried.
Hugs n love, Meganne
I could not agree more. I do think Aussies are getting a bit more patriotic though. every year I see more flags come out on Australia day.
Happy Australia Day - may you always be proud - I love the new avatar - it is sure fitting. *4U
Can you tell me why - people from another country - can not retire in Australia?
I did answer your previous post about this Shirlene. Can't find it now but perhaps you can??? Save me writing it all out again. hehehehehe!!!
No, I'm sorry. it was something about watching Oprah's Aus tour. I went looking but couldn't find it in my answers section.
Mind you, if you were on a boat from Indonesia our current government would welcome you with open arms, feed, clothe and house you and your family, pay your legal expenses to argue in the Courts why you should be allowed to stay here, and even pay you a welfare cheque every fortnight, equivalent to three times MORE than they pay our Aussie pensioners who have lived, worked and paid taxes here all their lives.
I love our country, I despise the current prime minister and everything she and her party stand for.
She should not have even been in government.... but that's a whole sore point for many Aussies.
Although I was not born in Australia! I have lived here for 33 years which is longer than I lived in nz) where I was born...love australia! Happy Australia day to all aussies!
I love the new avatar. I am a proud Aussie too. The one thing I HATE is people calling Australia "Down under". It is the one thing that irritates me the most. My reply is "I am not down under anybody or anything". Now I have that off my chest all Austalians have a happy Australia Day on the 26th. Love Marg
