I should mention that the Badgemaster film type of water soluble takes much longer to soak out.
It is suggested to soak the item for several hours to get the stabilizer all out.
The Vilene fibrous type of water soluble soaks out instantly in warm or cold water. Soaking longer will take it all out and leave the lace soft.

Madeira is sending me some badgemaster so I am going to try it. I put the items I made in the washing machine twice and the one from Madeira still looks solid. It barely changed the look at all. Looks like a cut away stab. I looked and they took it off their web site but have not offered me my money back.
AllStitch Embroidery supplies sells both the heavy Badgemaster Film type water soluble stabilizer and also the Vilene Fibrous ype of water soluble stabilizer.
See the link or try

I like their prices better on the vilene. I will probably order some if the badgemaster doesn't work. Thanks
Yes, Madeira is expensive. Try BSK (Bedford Sewing and Knitting) in the UK. I have used theirs with success. For Free-Standing-Lace you need to use a fairly heavy duty wash-away, or 2 or 3 layers of a lighter weight. Email BSK and ask what they suggest. They also do an excellent tear-away stabiliser in large rolls for ordinary machine embroidery. Reasonable prices, though I don't know about cost of postage out of UK.
www.bsk.co.uk (I think!)
Hope this will help.
I bought mine from DBS and even with postage it was cheaper than buying it here in Australia. :) xXx
edit: I cant for the life of me get this page to load but I know they sell stabilisers lol I have some of theirs. :)
I have been using the Vilene from WorldWeidner.com. I think it is a pretty good price and they have been doing free shipping in the US with a $20 order.
I also order from WorldWeidner. Good customer service. I ordered a wrong product and used it before realizing my mistake. They let me send it back and sent me what I needed. Great customer service!
I puchase mine from 'The Embroidery Store' - 1-800- 504-9757 - Sew 'N Wash WSS - mesh looking, not topping - SKU #H5902025 - have fun - contact me via PM - if you have questions. *4U Shirlene
Shoppers Rule also carries the mesh type stabilizer that I use - they had a special on it last week - and it is still on special - it was 3.89/yd for a 60" wide. Of course you do pay freight here. If you go to Point to Point and look at their Vilene - they sell for $5.50/yd (59" wide) with a minimum of 3 yards, but it includes the freight. I have used both places. I just got my order from Shoppers Rule. I also use badgemaster, but do prefer the Vilene, or WADS on most things.
Can this be used for making 3d flowers?Am trying to find a VERY cheap way to make a tiny flower for boutineers.
Yes - this is what I use and I know that several others do that too. I used this when I did the Sunflower challenge. I sometimes do double the WSS and the organza to make it more stable
I have used this a lot. 59" wide, $ 5.50 per yard. They require minimum of 3 yards and shipping free. This the fabric type.
This is the place I use and I can't believe how fast they ship. I had my order in two days! Vilene
The cheapest I have found is not the fabric type but look and feels like a thicker plastic it's called Badegmaster 30inches wide for $2.83 a yard. You can get it at Shopper's Rule.I was going broke trying to make FSL ornament buying the fabric type WSS so decided to try this as other Cute's talk about using it. By asking questions I found that you only need to use one thickness. It takes a little longer in the water bath is the only draw back that I've found so far. Join for free, then click on Club Specials, then Backing by the yard and you'll find it there on that first page. I hope this helps and happy shopping.
What is Badgemaster? Is it really heavy? I make patches for my Dad's wwii army division and I would love to have some very heavy stabilizer that doesn't wash away. Is this what I need?
