Thank you - I appreciate all your answers! I'll give them each a try!
Jan, I have read so many posts about ones using "Wonder Under", the iron on fusible that adheses the applique to
the fabric for a a permanent bond that won't wrinkle or
pucker. I have never done an applique yet, but I just purchased some of the Wonder Under yesterday at Hancocks
Fabrics. Hope it works as good as I have read.

I also like to use a quilters product called steam a seam this stays under the applique and when irons provide glue to the material and keeps edges clean. I make a paper template and cut it out with this first, after all stitching is done I iron it down.
I use light weight tearaway, to get a clean crisp edge than when I make embroidery books, I use cutaway. I never use the spray, too much mess, gunk up needle? maybe? I never tried it so I dont know factual
I use spray starch for the material to be appliqued, do it fairly wet so by the time it's ironed dry it's preshrunk as well. Occasionally (on things that would be laundered often) I apply the iron on stuff called Wondaweb or Vilene - iron it on, remove the paper, applique it and iron it after the embroidery is finished to get a permanent bond.
I too like to spray my fabric first-the best spray starch I have found is Mary Ellen's Best Press-you can buy it at Hancock's fabrics.
Is this a duplicate - I thought this was answered yesterday? Hehehe!
I usually use heavy cut away to stabilize the satin stitches around, hugs Lisa
ttt I also would like any advise on applique. I have not done any, but it would be nice to get any hints before I start. Pat
