Mary, I have Janome Digitizer Pro, and it happens to me too. I think to all of us. As Cutiepie said, if you are not using the exact same program & color chart as the design was created in, you have to change the colors. I always open & check colors, substituting the ones I have for the ones listed, and ignore what the sewing machine tells me entirely. If you have a dealer that sells Floriani products, they have a nice CD with thread charts from R-A, Sulky, Madeira, Isacord, Coats, Brother & Floriani, you can mix & match colors easily. It's a free trial, works pretty slick. Check with your dealer for this, & good luck. Marji
I have PE-Design 7 and it happens also... When using the following free software, I solved many color drawings. Try this free software to convert in your format (PES) even if your original drawing was in PES (just open it and save it under another name).

I wish you a lot of success...
Looks like you got the answer to your question. You might want to check to see if the site has available the color chart and print it out to have on hand.
The reason for this is because of the difference between the software used to create the design and the software you are using to open it. If they are from the same company, you will probably not see any difference between what you think it will show and what it actually shows. But if the software are from different companies, they will each have their own "standard" colors and will have to attempt to adapt. As others have said, just go in and "guess" what the color should be and save it as the changed version. Or, if you have a color chart for the design, you don't even have to bother changing the colors. Just use the color the chart says and ignore what the machine says. =] Flower for you.
I think that this happends to us all - We have to stitch what we think is better. I usually try it in my software, print the picture with color chart and go from there. However, I was stitching with my young grandson once-he chose the design for a Christmas present for his mother, and we wound up with a pink labrador! He did't want to throw it away, but we learned from that, and he did stitch out the design in the colors desired. Good stitches to you.
Hello marymoore and persiancatlover - I have had that problem too.I just studied this :if a design was created by .jef format ( it has a large color palette about 100 colors) and your machine has . hus format( it has about 30 colors). So your format selects something that it thinks is "close" - that`s why you may have pink chick and green flower.
If you have PE design 6 you can open the file then adjust the colours, using the colour on the order box. Each colour will come up in the order they are sewn, and then you press the real of cotton on the botttom and then you can choose a colour and press ok,and so on till all the colours are changed to your satisfaction.
i just have the basic pe design it came with my brother i need to find a higher version i guess
marymoore if you are looking to upgrade from basic try pe design lite it is the one under the 6 you can do heaps with it. Sorry i have not tried mine as it is still in the box i was offered 6 just after i brought it so cant even tell you all the features only that it imports, writes does lettering&curving, auto digitise and edits. But might be worth a look check out the brother website. hope this helps :)
That does happen from time to time - nothing you can do to change it - just something that happens - go into your program and editing and change the colors and do it on your machine or in your head - when you are stitching them out. Do like Connie said follow the picture or the color chart that you receive with the design. *4U
i will thank you of course i have not made it past the 4 color stage yet i am just a beginer *4u
good morning ,i have the same problem with that,i print the picture out and take a look at the picture for the colors when i see that they are wrong, greetings connie
