My first try at battenberg lace, Thank you Christie for sharing this design. The thread kept breaking but I STILL liked how it turned out.

I did it as a dark pink rose as the colour in roses means "appreciation, gratitude and thank you". I was thinking of my aunty as I was stitching it today( i was going to give it to her daughter, my cousin), and a couple of hours later I found out Zia, MY BEAUTIFUL aunty passed away about the same time. She lost her fight with cancer. :(

Oh my goodness Kathy - your dear Aunty Zia was with you - as she knew you were stitching this for her daughter. She is part of this design - I had the same sort of thing with my grandmother the first time I was stitching out a beautiful lace doily - that was similar to one that she used to do by hand. Thank you for getting this photo of your lovely rose here for us to also share this inspiration story. I will be praying for both your and your cousin. *4u Shirlene
