I love nature pictures and miss the Florida wildlife. My parents had lived in Stuart on the intercostal waterway and they had all kinds of sea creatures make daily visits. Miss watching the otters play they were entertaining. You do have to be mindful of the gators as they tend to return to the same place to mate.
We have an occasional otter come into the pond. They are so cute, but boy can they wipe out the fish population quickly. But, we don't fish down there, so as long as we still have fish, guess that is okay.
Gosh Beth, that is mighty scary having an Alligator in your backyard pond! We don't have any down this way but there are lots up north - love the Crane. Love and blessings Chris
I do NOT want to step out into my backyard and find an
ALLIGATOR!! I understand a few have been found here in Georgia, but, hopefully, never in MY fish pond!! LOL
Angel
Love birds but don't let the dog out, lol! I get lots of wildlife though we live in the city limits but nothing like that!
Beautiful picture of the heron..but when we had a family of raccoons visit nightly on our deck, I was freaked out..I can't imagine having a gator. You are a braver person then I am.
We get the racoons too - they can be mean at times, and when they rare up - they are BIG.
Thanks for sharing those pics. I have to say that the gator visitor would freak me out too but I remember growing up in northern ontario where we frequently spotted black bears.
I would be a little freaked if I saw a bear, but they are down here - we have never seen any out here. So much building has caused them to roam farther from their sites.
I'm afraid of alligators LOL. I use to play this game jump from furniture to furniture ..if you touched the ground the gators got you...well it was a few years age that I played that game...lol
The crane is beautiful. We have great blue herons here on our farm and they are wonderful to watch. As for as the gator...keep him!
We get the blue herons too - DH takes beautiful pictures of our native creatures. We also get eagles that come to fish in our pond, and hawks. We used to get owls, but too many homes have been built and they are not around much anymore.
I can see you are from Florida, I do not like them but I like to see them from far, around this time you see a lot of them. I think it is because of the sun? Well i do not know. Where exactly in florida are you? I do not live in FL anymore my DH and I retired in Dominican Republic, but I have my other home in Miami close to Homestead. We go every year to do our taxes, uncle Sam does not forgive, even if you retired LOL.
We are proabably about 20 or so miles outside of Daytona - West of there. We have lived here for 31 years - at least I have. DH has traveled the World in that time.
wow, that's impressive! hope you don't have little pets walking around in case that Gator gets hungry.
Real "wild-life" next to you. I would be more scared than fascinated...
Greetings, Bettina
I think it has to be a bit scary living that close to that sort of wild life - but I know it has it pleasures as well. *4U
So right - it is still frightening when you hear a splash and not know what it is out there. LOL
Love the crane but could definitely do without the gator in the back yard. Does he or she cause any problems for you?
Just stops by to "visit". This about the 3 or 4th time that we have had gators in the pond. One became a problem, but it did move on to the lake down from us. They move around during mating season. They have to climb up a hill to get to our back yard, and we have it fences. But, they can climb fences too!
Here are pics of visitors.
1. Gator in the pond - you can only see his head.
2. Gator on the bank - DH Says he is probably 5-6'
3. Sandhill Crane - one of 6 that was visiting - almost the gator's lunch.
