Very pretty and a super idea! Steering wheels get so hot sitting in the sun!
I like it. I found the design at abc-free-machine-embroidery-designs.com

Your valentine hearts are nice. If you look closely at the rings in the centre of the hearts, they are the Male and Female signs. Does this mean it's a unisex car????
No I don't think they are male-female signs which I thought as I was stitching it but it would be a unisex Cover depending what you embroider on it and the colour of the fabric that you use. Cheers, Lyn
Just another afterthought.Could you make with cotton and quilt/stipple with thermafleece or other heat resistent stuff?Told you , you have got me thinking of designs and other things,LOL.
I am sure you can come up with lots of ways and I do think stippling would be a great idea. This way you could make your own. Much easier than the quilting. Must take a photo of the fabric that I used. Cheers,
Lyn
What a brilliant idea.here in Spain, they would be perfect for the long, hot summer months. Now you really have my creative juices flowing. And how come nobody thought of this before, LOL.No more burnt hands.Thank you and very well done, looks fabulous.
This looks really attractive. Well done, and thanks Meganne, for finding where it was from. I got a newer car a few months ago, and have found that my driving glasses get too hot when I park the car (Summer here). They are in a special drop-down box above the rear view mirror. Maybe a bag for them might help in a similar way.

posted this before but it keeps being hidden
Thank you meganne for finding this for me. I just couldn't remember where I found it. Cheers, Lyn
Wow Lyn that is really cool. Wish it was here too. Was it easy to make? I have to do it for myself too. Lately I'm scared I might get blisters on my hands as I keep forgetting to put something in the car to cover my wheel.
Thanks, Kathy
Hello Kathy, It was just so easy. Just get you quilting material. If you buy 1 mtr from Spotlight (boring colours) it will make 3. Cut a circle 17" (43mm I think)". I made a template from cardboard. Then I cut 2 pieces for the back. Bias binding is cheaper at Spotlight IF you buy it by the Mtr rather than the Birch packs it is cheaper. To do the embroidery you don't need any stabliser. If you have problems let me know privately. Lyn
Sounds great now I have to go to spotlight to buy some. It looks like your fabric is blk, which is fine as then I can embroider WHATERVER colours and pattern I want. And yes 17 inch is 43cm. THANKS for the reply.
Pity we are not in USA as they have some really beautiful quilted fabric and even if it is cheaper to buy than here in Aust it would cost about US$13 just to send 1 yard. Too much bother to make your own unless you have a special machine. Project for someone.
That's the thing isn't it, it usually cost more for postage. Maybe when you know someone who is going they might be kind enough to bring some back for you! It's funny you should say that I was thinking of quilting some but VERY time consuming. I don't even know if my machine can do it with much ease. I haven't had my machine for long enough to try the sewing machine part. I use it mostly for embroidery. He he
I have an Innovis 1200 which is a sew and embroidery machine. As spanishpeach suggested Stippling instead of Quilting might work as well. I can buy 8 Yds from USA and postage is $13 but they can only fit 1 yard of Quilting material in the same $13 pack.
Hi Lyn I've bought one metre of three diff colours. They had A LOT of diff colours. Was the fabric you bought 112-115cm wide??? I've washed them and now that my machine is behaving I will soon be trying it out. I have the 1500D which also sews and embroiders. But I don't know if I'm doing something wrong as it becomes temperamental when changing over and doesn't work straight away. I have to ring the guy at the shop I bought it and ask him. Hope to do this project soon, it may take a while to decide which pattern to embroider on it. Kathy
Hello Lyn I made one!!!!!!!!! YAY! Very happy with how it turned out! I have put it up in projects. I may have made it a little too 'girly' (after all it is from his three girls', me being one),for my hubby but he loves it anyway. THANKS HEAPS for you help! Kathy
I thought I posted on this yesterday - but the site was up and down all day - this is very nice work - keep on stitching. *4U
Thank you, So proud that I thought of it myself after the car being in the sun all day.
Lyn
OH, if you want to show the back you can put it up in a separate post. Hugs, M
What a brilliant idea. I'll have to put this on my todo list too. :) Thanks for sharing.
What a fabulous idea and so beautifully done, I love the hearts design.
I could make several of these for family and friends, especially after the heat of the last few days. Thanks for the inspiration. hugs and roses, Meganne
Sadly as you might know Spotlight have only 4 colours in this quilted material and really such boring colours. USA have beautiful quilted fabric but to get it here - too expensive.
I love the heart design nice job
It was a freebie from Where? When I find it again I will list it, but thought so many others find these freebies that it must have been listed before. I have seen it again in the past week or so. Lyn
very pretty heart design, but I don't quite get the idea of the whole steering wheel being covered?? Now the leather seats...that is a different story lol ~linda~
Summertime in Australia means EVERYTHING gets unbearably hot, sometimes impossible to touch the steering wheel to drive. Most Aussies have fabric seats in their cars, or else they use seat covers, but the steering wheel needs a cover to keep it from getting too hot to touch.
Windscreen heat deflectors are also popular here, you put them up inside the car, to cover the whole front windscreen, every time you have to park outside for any length of time.
Hope this explanation helps.
Hugs n roses, Meganne
thanks for that meganne-actually alot of people here use the windshield screens too-because the interior of the vehicles do get pretty toasty when sitting in the sun for any amount of time. I was just curious about the full cover because that would mean putting it on and taking it off all the time right? Alot of people here like to get the matching seat and steering wheel covers. That is a real cute idea-my only problem would be remembering to put the cover on everytime I parked the car-but then again the soft leather cover on mine doesn't get unbearably hot.
Thank you Ladies for explaining. Must only be Australians who could use one of these. Cheers, Lyn
well I suppose everyone could-but it would have to removed for driving-obviously-for safety reasons-to be able to grip the wheel and on most cars these days, there are all kinds of functions right on the steering wheel-Onstar controls, music selections options, auto stats-etc.and of course-the horn lol
You would have to remove the cover before you drive or it would be too dangerous. It would only take a moment to remove it.
This is a super idea. I wouldn't need it right now though. We are not cleaned out from this last storm.
I guess you couldn't use one at the moment with you snow storms but we are in Summer here in Aust. Last Monday was 42.9C that is something like 107F.
beautiful heart design and a very fine color ************
ABC Embroidery Designs, I just realised I already have this one. :-) http://www.abc-free-machine-embro...
lol-now that you pointed that out Meganne-I just realized I have that design in my unorganized files-thanks!! It stitched out really nicely~linda~
oops-I take that back-the one I have is the single heart with all the filagree (sp?) and swirls around it
