Hi Jenny, I researched this for you, and while the Brother USA site does mention that PED6 wont run on win7 64bit, this fix may work for you:
Insert your PED6 CD but dont install it, exit out of the program then navigate your way to the setup.exe file on the CD. Right click that file and "run as administrator" and the program should start to install. To use PED6 you may have to right click it and change the compatibility (ie run in xp mode). Some ppl find that they need a new driver, and while the driver HAS been updated for Vista, its the same driver you need for win7 (a pdf file on the brother site mentions this).
I feel your pain as I also stuck with PED6 so hope you can get it working, it might take a little tweaking but others have said they got it working in 64bit win7. Good luck :) (I'm going to try to install it in Ubuntu (linux) I hope it works lol).
I'll add links for the references I read so in case you'd like to read them too.
Link 1: scroll down to Jock's comment on Sep 6th, 2010.
Link 2: the Brother pdf referring to win7 update being the same as vista's update should open in google docs
Link 3: Brother site (ignore that it says it wont run on 64bit, and continue with the instructions)
Link 4: scroll down to step 6 to see how to change the compatibility mode.
Link 5: PED6 upgrade page, select win7 32bit, but if this fails and you need to uninstall, you may need the xpsp3 update instead since you'll be running in xp compatibility.
Link 6: List of software updates for Brother products (I didnt check for your machine's updates, but you may like to).
I honestly hope these work for you :) xXx
