Ok, I've been married to a wonderful (most of the time) man for over 50 years. ONCE, many, many years ago he bought me and our daughter each a box of candy. I still want to know what he had done to make up for! Then once he made a reservation at a fancy hotel in Jacksonville, FL for the weekend. No clue on that one either. He does not remember my birthday or anything. Hurt at first, but after all this time, I don't care. I'm used to it now. It's just him. His family never did celebrate things like that. So he doesn't either.
It's funny how some people don't celebrate, my husband's family is like that...very practical no frills. They all think I'm crazy but who cares I love all thefrills. I made talking toast this morning. Thats were you press a stamp into your taost before toasting and then when it brown the message appears. Mind said Happy Valentines Day! It made me smile
Valentines day was not very much celebrated in holland 27 years ago. I had Peter that summer (Yes a holiday romance) and we had been flying between holland and UK ever since we met. On Valentines day an enormous bunch of roses was delivered to my work. I had no idea about Valentine's day and was very surprised as it was not near my birthday . One of my colleagues had to inform me it was Valentine's day. I felt quite embarrased as I had not even posted a card for him! From this day onwards I have always remembered Valentine's day.
Our family loves to celebrate. We find some new custom or ritual and then
incorporate into our lives. Cinco de Mayo,Mexican food for dinner, Hanukkah, Latkas and so on. Just started celebrating Kwanzaa...Everyday is celebrated ...so fun
My three girls are grown now, but my most memorable Valentines Day was when the girls were in elementary school. I always helped them prepare their valentine cards to take to school the next day. When I awoke the
next morning I discovered a valentine taped to the medicine cabinet, as I began my "early" routine from the
bed. When I drowsily made my way to the bathroom sink to wash my hands and brush my teeth, their was another taped to the mirror. As I approached the stove to fix breakfast, a valentine was taped to the range hood and another to a kitchen cabinet door! All of them had such sweet expressions written on the back by my hubby, saying "You're the best", I'll love you forever!, Never far from my heart", etc. Then, he came into the kitchen with a big grin and said, "Did you find your valentines?" I said yes, gave him a big hug, and told him he had really gave me several. He opened the refrigerator door and said, but you didn't find them ALL! Inside the frig was 2 Milky Way chocolate bars (which he knew I loved)! He had taped valentines to tooth picks and stuck them into each chocolate bar. He told me he had used the some of the leftover cards from our daughters boxes.
He did not say, but possibly had forgotten to shop for me until too late, and after I had gone to sleep, he apparently came up with this idea! So sweet and thoughtful, and meant more than diamonds to me!!

OH, I love your story. Do you mind if I borrow his ides and use it for my husband this year???
I had a very sad Valentine's day many years ago - my sweet Father passed away on Valentine's day right at 2:14, we were with him. For many years, I requested that my DH not give me any flowers on that day. Time does help to heal - flowers on Valentines day, no longer makes me feel sad.
Now when you think of Valentine's Day....you can think how your father is in your heart and celebrate all the good memories
I met my husband on valentines day 1977. I was part of a young adults organization called the Dominic Club. I was invited to the dance by one young man and then While their George asked me to dance. We spent the evening talking and then he asked me out to dinner for the next day. The next day George flew me to Rochester MN from Minneapolis MN. for dinner. About an our airplane ride. Maybe I was nuts to get in a 2 seat airplane with a pilot I did not even know. We went out every night for the next 12 days and each night he brought me 1 red rose until I had a dozen. Well one month later he proposed and nine months later we were married and now have been married for almost 34 years. Cindy B
Since I have been with Rick or married to him - he has always managed to do great things for me - not sure that will still happen now - but time will tell. *4U
I am sitting here trying to remember any memorable Valentines Day! They all were sweet but nothing other than a really nice day comes to mind. So I guess I am lucky!! I've been married for 37 years!

I too had to think for a while...at first I couldn't even remember last year..but then we all started thinking and over the years some things stand out. Like the year I got the big heart shaped See's candy box. I saved the box for a few years and have always regreted tossing it out. LOL
While I've had some wonderful Valentine's Day experiences my most memorable was the one that my first child was born on. The most expensive valentine I've ever had and now her husband knows that too.
Early in my marriage I bought my husband some Valentine boxer shorts... they were red with white hearts and came in a box with a wind-up beating heart. On the heart it says "My heart beats for you" Every year I take out this beating heart. All through my daughters growing up and now my grandchildren coming over they all love to wind up the heart. It makes me smile to remember how young and in love we were...now 38 years later we are still in love but we don't do corny thing anymore. LOL
