designs that are not girly! I have the applique dinosaurs but thought I needed to stipple the sides since I was using batting. Does any one know of designs in frames with stippling for an 8 by 8 frame?

Don't know how old your GS is and you'd still need to do your own stippling. I bought this set: http://bunnycup.com/viewset.aspx?...

My Embroidery Haven has meandering set that I think you may be interested in. It is on sale right now. I just bought it and look forward to using it. It is in all sizes, borders frames and corners. Check it out.

I am green with envy, I am thinking about the 11000 too but I have the 10001, A great Site to get really good designs was posted by Carolyn yesterday. It's Henry's Home page The designer did this for Janome! Enjoy but I should warn you if you do download them ALL you are looking @ about 3.5 hrs!

I use my embroidery machine a lot of this type of quilting. The light RW or outline designs work great. Embroidery library has many useful designs for this. I just purchased a few more with my birthday certificate and the special sale they were having. On the left side of the page you will find a link for quilting designs.

There's great advice here and I like the idea of using the applique designs without the appliqued fabric - just shadows of the dinosaur shapes. I haven't tried free-motion quilting yet but using for stitching leaf shapes sounds a good one, too.
I really like it when people ask questions that receive information I can store for future use.
Thanks, alexgrandma, and I hope your quilt turns out to be one that will be loved forever.

It will be a one of a kind! In the center 3 blocks will be his initials and the name will be stacked on top. My son liked that idea!

I have several applique dinos. One set is from adorable applique right here on the sister site. Another is from linniepinnie. Nitas Place has some. There are several sets at both ArtisticThreadWorks and designsbysick.com. Good luck! If you like the artistic thread works, you can join for a week (I think) for $1 and download all you have time to!! But they do renew automatically. I love their site.

I have quite a few but the design had to be Daddy approved. My son liked the applique on DBembroidery.

You'd have to do your own stippling, but Henry's are the best real looking dinosaurs I have found.

Just a thought.... depending on your fabric, how about doing a series of random dinosaur outlines along the edges.... kinda like applique without the fuss. Shows up the same on both sides.
I am doing my first quilting on the 11000 and am using some butterflies for my granddaughter to quilt... but, anything can happen from here on out.
Good luck!

i used these ones on my GS baby rag quilt and they turned out great. I did an X across the square first and then the design over that. They sew out perfect.

Can't help you with your question - but hope you enjoy using your machine as much as I enjoy using mine. I think it's a dream!

You do not need to stipple. You can do any type of quilting such as cross hatch, in the ditch, shadow quilting or free hand. By free hand I do not mean stipple. You can meander or move your quilt in a rotating fashion to get circles, or move it as if you were drawing and get shapes like leaves. You can do this by using your normal sewing machine and increasing the stitch length to 3.
