I just want to find out from cuties what they think is the best. I have been on HRT for 2 years and was not happy on my meds, headaches, mood swings, hot flushes, forgetfultness were some of my symptons. So i went to see the gynea who took me off my current HRT (I was taking a supplment of menoclove which helped for my hot flushes and headaches - but apparently this caused me to take a double dose of estrogen) she put me on Menograine (for headaches and hot flushes) and an antidepressant, (only realised it was antidepressant after i googled it). I have never used anti depressants and dont feel comfortable doing so, so only took 1 and decided not to continue.

Side effects of Menograine is Drowsiness - i just want to sleep all the time when i take this, so decided to stop taking it and see what happens. Google says that once you take Menograine you have to be weaned off it. Definitely not for me.
I am feeling fine without any meds - it is a week now without HRT. I am experiencing some hot flushes but can live with it - as long as they dont get any worse and i have a mild headache every now and again, which i take a paracetamol for it and it work. Have to see the gynea after a month for another blood test to see my hormone levels (i have no ovaries so not sure what this level will show) then she will decide what hrt to put me on, but in the meantime i want to find out as much about this as i can.
I would like to find out from cuties their experiences and what works for them, also can you live without estrogen?

Menopause was the pits for me until I started using a product with black cohash (not sure spelling is right) in it, it took about 6 weeks for it to be effective but it was great.....I choose not to take any hormones due to side effects and I like natural when it works.....there is also creams that contain mexican yam that helps.....I have nothing against medicine I take it for my really bad headaches, I just know the black cohosh worked for me (I don't miss the hot flashes!!!)....I'm finally finished with menopause (I think).....Gods blessings Janet

Found out that sugars can cause the hot flashes to increase...lack of sleep or stress is a big factor in causes.....drinking lots of water and getting more sleep decreases any of those symptoms you listed....excerscise also helps decrease...cutting caffeiene out helps tremendous...(well that just about took all my good food away ..sugary food and pepsi)However, when I stay away from them, I rarely get hot flashes, my headaches are really lower, I haven't had a good mood swing sice my hystroectomy was done...(got those 2 times a year when almost anything would make me angry and kindof violent).

if you feel a hot flush going to happen, try holding in a deep breath and gently let it out a couple of times slowly...helped me..

Never took any estrogen and its been over 6 years..don't get the mood swings, I try to do calcium supplements though...those viactives are wonderful...especially the chocolate ones....good luck and I hope some might help you....

Thanks for all the info - a week now without HRT and have not taken other meds - slight headache and few hot flushes - will try remedies as suggested!

I have been on HRT for 25 years. I had a 6 month break about a year ago but felt so terrible that my doc has put me back. Very low dosage and I have a mamogram every year - just in case. It took me ages in the begining to find a HRT that suited me. I find the hot flushes just too much to bear.

Why don't you try 'Serenity' cream (from Wellsprings-health.com). They also publish a very informative booklet to support the treatment. I have used it and can confirm its properties. It is an all-natural product, so you won't have any unpleasant side-effect.
