I also use bobbin rings. They are great! If you knock the ring off the table the bobbins stay put. Charla
Lyn, I use a bobbin ring for mine - I just kept all my colored bobbins in one drawer above my thread - when I need a bobbin of a certain color - when I am looking for the thread - I just pull the bobbin out at the same time - use it until it runs out and fill it up again with the same color, again and put it back in the bobbin ring - it works for me.
This picture was taken before I stored them in my thread drawer.
I use these rings as well - they hold about 30 bobbins each - blue for sewing thread, red for embroidery thread. If an embroidery bobbin is almost empty and I won't be using it again for FSL or something else where the back has to be the same colour as the front, I use the remaining thread for embroidery - keeping an eye on it so it won't run out unnoticed.
I have never seen these. Maybe they have not reached us here in Aust yet. Someone will tell me.
I use boxes. Have 12 that hold 25 each. I hate to wind bobbins. I hate it. Such a pain. I sell my embroidery on towels, etc. And I can't get what it's really worth. So I use white bobbin thread 99% of the time. Unless the back will show, it's white. I have 11 boxes of white bobbins. Wind them all at one time. With my side winder. Will never wind on a sewing machine again. This is wonderful to me. I can sew and wind at the same time. Takes me about 90 minutes to do the 275 bobbins. Only have to do it a few times a year. The last box holds the color bobbins. And it's not full yet. Shortly, I think, since I've been doing some 2 sided tooth fairy bags. All of these boxes fit nicely into one of the thin drawers in my 7 drawer cabinet that I got at Wal-Mart. And I have a bit of room for the strange color little spools that I have. I'd like to see the box that holds 200 bobbins. Never knew it existed. Will start looking. My mother, God rest her, would take a bobbin with just a little bit of thread and put a new color on it. And of course, they were metal and you couldn't see how much you had of the outside color or what else was on it. I would get so ticked off. But I was a good daughter and never said anything to her. I was so happy when she finally quit sewing and just gave the machine to me.
I have just realised I am not alone with all of my bobbins. I can hear my late husband saying. "Why do you need more. Don't you have enough?" They just don't understand.
I have a glass jar that I keep them in. Have another glass jar to put empty bobbins in. DeVon
I use a clear plastic box with clear lid to store my bobbins. It will hold about 200 bobbins. I believe I
got it at Walmart. It keeps the thread from drying out, so less breakage, bobbins organized, and you can see them at a glance. The box has three rows of clear plastic pointed spikes coming from the bottom of the box that holds five or six bobbins each. There is room to put stacks of bobbins between these spiked rows. I am sure to place the lid back on the box to keep the thread from deteriorating as quickly. Very inexpensive and easy to get a new bobbin, as needed. I throw empty bobbins in a small plastic tray beside this storage box, in case I need to wind a special color.

I use bobbin boxes. And as for the thread on the bobbins, I use it up doing FSL projects. I just try and use a color close to the thread on the bobbin. It usually turns out okay for me. So far I have not had any problems doing that. Hugs, Mary
Thanks Mary. Maybe I am old Fashioned but my FSL always seems to be White or Ecru. Must try some coloured FSL.
I must have 130 bobbins, once I get down to a small amount I just empty it and it usually turns out to be only 7-9 meters of thread. For me it's easier to toss it rather than worry about it he he I've posted my way of storage, take a look.
When I start getting frustrated with having to changing bobbins this is what usually happens.
One time I decided to use the bobbins up, I got some denim and a piece of stabilizer under it and did rows of machine embroidery patterns ( just used the machine, not hooped) Tried heaps of patterns out, then made the squares into potholders. Didn't matter about the bobbin, except that I had to keep changing them of course!!
