I've been told at some point that sewing machine needles are a bit like cars and even sewing machines these days. Can't always tell who actually makes them just because of the brand stamped on them. More than one brand may even be made by the same manufacturer. I *think* that Organ and Janome are the same. I'd be inclined to first lay flat the needles from both packs and check they are the same length and that the eye is in the same place. I've found in the past that the Schmetz didn't work with my needlethreader, so that was enough to put me off using them (well that and the expense!). Lots of info on needles at Allstitch.net
Thank you for the link. I will check it out when I get home later. Just rushing off to Bobbin Lace Classes. Lyn
For 29 yrs I've had a Janome Memory 7 and for the last 2 yrs. I now have a Janome MC11000SE. I always used the Smeltz needles in the Memory 7 and now in the MC11000. I have used a Singer leather needle in the Memory 7 as I still had one from when I used to have a reg Singer machine. I don't believe I have ever used a Janome needle as I still have the original pkg from the Mem 7.
Guess from some of the comments I should try the Janome needles.
I've never heard of organ needles.
I have a Janome 1001 and use schmetz needles with no problems. Janome needles are hard to come by where I live!
However, the only bobbin thread it will stitch nicely with is either Janome or brother. I have several spools of other brands in the bottom drawer that I just cannot use.
I did try klase needles once, and my machine did not stitch at all well with those - gave them to my friend and they worked just fine on her machine.
Hrrrm.. my Janome is a sewing-only machine and I've had it nearly 17 years. I ran out of Janome Blue Tips, and so used the Schmetz ones I had on hand (for a different machine).. wow the stitching was horrible, skipping all over the place and the funny thing is that it took me 3 hours of troubleshooting till I finally rang the guy who services my machines (he's not part of any "brand" network, he does them all - this amazing man can fix anything that stitches) and he pointed out to only use blue tips. Well, today I find that there are red tips as well lol. (I take it they're ball points?)
I remember organ needles being mentioned a while back and I asked if they could be used in my Janome but lost track of the discussion so didnt find out till just now (thx mpo) :)
I guess mine is an old workhorse and fussy about it's needles. Perhaps the new machines arent so fussy? I got a bit off-track there, sorry I cant answer more specifically tho :) xXx
I use a Janome 11000SE and I use the Janome red or blue for embroidery as well as the organ titanium needles and they are great, but if in a pinch I use Schmetz. My dealer told us it was perfectly fine to use all of the brands listed above....I use Schmetz for my other Janome machines as well.....no problems.
Also my Bernina, and Brother machines.....
For embroidery on tee shirts and sweats I do use the Organ needles....they work great and don't need the ball point at all.....
I am so glad I have the needles sorted for my Brother. This will be my Friends decision. Thank you. Lyn
Ok, I will share "my" experience. For 4 years I used Janome needles. I would stop in at my dealer and say "Joe, I need some needles". He would answer "blue or red?". So that's how I bought them for my MC9500. Now I have the MC11000SE. So, 5 years later and just a tad smarter, I have learned "my machine is happy with Janome OR Organ titanium needles. But, I have to add, those are the only 2 brands I have used on it, cause if it's happy, why ruin it? Carol
Best to stick with something that works for you. Thank you. I will pass all messages onto my friend on Monday. Lyn
Yes, it is recommended that you use only Janome or Organ needles in your Janome. The shank is shorter.
Organ make Janome needles.
If you use any other brand it could result in skipped stitches.
Janome machines are great for both sewing and embroidery. I have never had any trouble with any of my machine.
Just remember to use the right needle, slow your machine down, especially when doing outline work or lettering, and use good quality threads and stabilisers and you should have no problems.
Ricky, I seriously can't resist this any longer, you are so anal, not everything is set in stone and not everything is mathematically measured. From what I understand you are an amazing digitizer but for goodness sake lighten up. people are all different, and so are machines. Really they are!!!
Alice, I do have Janome machines.
What machine have you got?
What makes you an authority on Janome machines?
What makes you think I know nothing about them?
Before you criticize anybody it is a good idea to find out their back ground, don't you think?
And don't use the word anal. It is very offensive.
Well I will apologise for using the word anal, that was in poor taste. But I do have a Janome machine, I still have it. My Janome was my first embroidery machine, It never preformed well for me for embroidery because I was following the manufacturers instructions to a tee. since I have bought my brother 6 needle and learned more about embroidery I can get better results from my Janome, because now I know more about embroidery and understand my machines better, as I said in an earlier post, Your machine is like people you need to know it. They are all different. My Brother pr620 will work better with different bobbin fills and threads than someone else's Brother pr620. And you really do need to know how to adjust your bobbin tension, which is something you have argued with me constantly. So please accept my apology for my crass use of words, but the sentiment remains.
LMAO-OMG Alice, you just got B@*^$ slapped-You used a word that I use all the time-and it is at my fingertips alot of times on posts that I read but I would never say it here-lol-too funny-
Not gonna get into the cat fight mix though-I am snickering just reading and responding here-couldn't resist.
BTW-I can be that way with things I do too-my husband says I am that way about keeping our driveway & 5 feet beyond either side snowflake and ice-free all winter long LOL. =O) ~linda~
you are not the only person with a driveway AND sidewalks like that, Linda! And...Jim actually HELPS me clear it like that - in fact, I think he is WORSE than I am.... ha ha
Please Ladies. I just wanted to help my friend - not cause an argument. WE all love the same things and come on here to share and learn. Lovers not fighters. PLEASE No more arguments.
My friend does not have an Embroidery machine as I have but from what I know a machine that can also do fancy stitches. I will stand to be corrected. Peace Please. Lyn
Oh yes Kim-I do it on the sidewalks that way too!! lol. It's a good workout and it gets me out in the fresh airfor a few hours-looks like I will be at it again tomorrow-calling for another storm this way starting around 6 am tomorrow and going all day. I have a spoiled pooch that doesn't like to go in the snow if he doesn't have to-altho, his lil dude parts are only about 6" from the ground when he squats soooo... ;O)
that's funny! I swear our neighbors think we are nuts...but I don't care. We also have two snowblowers...one for each of us! I actually don't even like it when he goes outside without me. Don't stay out too long, now, tomorrow!
LOL-dueling snowblowers-too funny. Would you believe-we have had one for...gosh, I guess maybe 10 yrs.and I actually have only used it maybe a total of 5 times in all those yrs. I never learned how to use it until last year-but I always automatically grab "MY" shovels and go to town. I do like to use it when the banks get too high at the end of the driveway. It's not bad when I use my husband's truck-that's up high enough-but in my car (grand prix GT)it's down low and the front end is almost out in the road before I can see if anyone is coming either way-and people have a tendency to want to drive way too fast up our road (in town but not necessary to be doing the 30 mph limit for and residential area)
I have the Janome 1100SE and no you do not have to use only Janome needles, I use Organ or Schmetz in mine with no problem. Whoever said that each machine has it's own personality is right! You get to know your machine and the sounds it makes and when it doesn't sound healthy.
I have a Janome 350 e, I do use the Janome needles but mostly because I like them and they are basically the same price as Schmetz. But both work in my machine and my dealer sells both. I have not had any problems with either. Hugs Lisa
Thank you Lisa. Guess when we ask questions we all learn from the answers. Lyn
Think that should be Memory Craft 300E. Maybe she didn't have her glasses on??
My first embroidery machine was a Janome, and I got told the same thing, but to be honest I don't like my janome for embroidery, I have never had very good results with it. I is a great sewing machine. as far as which needles to use, I personally believe that every single machine has it's own personality. you need to get to know your machine. It may like a particular needle, bobbin thread or embroidery thread. I would not a believe a word that salesman told me, just get to know your machine, like it is one of your children. here is an analogy. I once told one of my kids friends that I could tell each of my kids by the way they breathed. So I covered my eyes and each of my kids walked into the room in a random order, they tried to trick me, but I never failed to know which one of my kids was in the room. This is how you should know your machine. So which one likes green veges, which one can't stand melted cheese and so on. you just need to know your machine. Just like kids they may be built from the same exact parents but the DNA gets all mixed up somehow.
When I changed my machine from Elna to Janome I found the Elna needles did not work. When I campared the two I found the Elna needles were shorter than the Jamome. I use Organ and Schmetz with no problem.
BTW I also had an issue with the bobin thread. Again when comparing I found that the Janome bobbin is deeper than any other bobbin I have (that's Elna, Singer and Brother)so I have maked my Janome bobbins with J! I had problems with bobbin thread showing on the top - I changed to Janome and now NO bobbin thread on the top of my work.
I have a Janome MC1100 -hope this info helps.
Thank you, Now if my friend had said that the Bobbins were different I would have understood. I have 3 machines - two very old ones that I no longer use and all 3 have different bobbins.
LOL-of course a salesperson would tell her that. Jeepers, I didn't even know that Janome had it's own needles. When I bought my 1st machine, my dealer recommended Schmetz-as I recall, that is the brand that came with all my machines. I do however use other brands that I have on hand from my singer machines-with no problems at all.To each his own though, I guess-it's a salesman's job to push their products and brands ~linda~
Gee, I hope this guy wasn't telling her that the only ones that would work are the ones from his shop?????. She is one of those really nice Ladies, Great Cook Great at Quilting and virtually anything that she puts her mind to. I also use Schmetz but have been told about another brand which I will try when I run out. L
I've used several makes with no problems.
Thank you. I have a Brother so I said that was rubbish but thought maybe I should ask before I talk about something that I know nothing about. I will ring her tomorrow with the answers. Lyn
