Just another hint to disolve the stabilizer. With towels I just cut away as much water soluble stabilizer as possible and then just put them in the washer and dryer, especially if I save and do several at a time.

I have been using stitch and tear for many years with good results. I also use a WSS on top of the towel to prevent the towel loops from coming thru.

Since it is going to be your first try, I thought you might need a tip on placement on towels. This is an industry standard, you can use it if you want or adjust to your liking:
Towels

Washcloths
1" - 1 1/2" above hem, or 1" above border. Can also place design in corner, angled, 1" - 1 1/2" above corner.

Hand Towels
2" above hem, or 1 1/2" above border.

Bath Towels
4" above hem, or 1 1/2" - 2" above border.

Bath Sheets
5" above hem, or 2 1/2" - 3" above border.
Welcome and good luck! ;)

Just one little suggestion. I agree with the methods given by Ruthie and Shirlene, with one exeption. If I am making a REALLY fancy towel that has Fancy trim and is obviously for decoration only, I use cut away on the back instead of tear-away and water soluable on top. It holds on for dear life and will not budge, no matter how many times you stick it in the dryer to "fluff" it back up, or even at the dry cleaners.;)

thank you very much for your help, I was wondering about that placement

Hi christina, I would use a tear-away stabiliser, or cut-away if you prefer, on the back, with the water soluble on the front. You need the water soluble that looks like food wrap, (but DO NOT use food wrap), this stops the top stitches disappearing into the loopy bits of the towel. A lot depends on how thick and fluffy your towels are, but this will work for most towels. Have fun.

chritina, water soluable is stabilizer, too. You can use it on top and bottom, but you will have to wash it away. I use a tear away on the bottom and a light topping that looks like plastic, but is a wash away, you can just pull it away and then spritz it with a spray bottle. *4U

I don't use a stabiliser but I use water soluable on top and bottom to stop towl coming through the stitches
