I don't have the talent to quilt, but made this blanket as a gift for my grand daughter. I used a woven fabric with squares in the design on one side. I embroidered various things that would have meaning for Emma (a smiling helicopter because daddy is a pilot, a baby Clemson tiger - mom and dad's alma mater, etc.)in some of the square's. I added batting and used gingham for the trim and for the opposite side, and placed some stitches between the designs from front to back to help hold it all in place. It's not a "real" quilt . . . but I'm still proud of it!!

Okay, so I'm now gonna consider myself a beginner quilter!! But I think I'll probably stick to the kind that don't have too many pieces. Thanks so much everyone. Lynn (ctyanke4) *

Sure looks like a quilt to me. It's a top with batting and a back, stitched together. I think that's called a quilt!! I have seen that type of woven fabric an thought it would make a neat quilt top. Now I know it will. And I'm sure Emma will treasure it forever. You did an excellent job. Flower for you.

I have done one using plain material stitched the designs on then sewed a couple of colored strips between designs both ways then sewed it to a thicker blanket. I don't have photo and by short term foster child has it with him. I also added his name on it.

Sorry my dear, but I think you proved yourself wrong. It looks like and sounds like you "DO" have the talent to quilt. I like the way you put it all tgtr. *'s4U Keep going :-)

Well thanks for the vote of confidence! My problem is that I'm always in a rush and quilting has all those pieces!!! Perhaps (with all the available support here) I'll give it a try. *

I do not have the patience to do piece quilting.Meaning the patterns like log cabins and flying geese.Like you said too many little pieces. So I do block quilts. They are so much easier to me.It's a good way to start.
