When I first started embroidery by machine, I joined several yahoo groups. I never did find the designs they offered, and my mailbox was overwhelmed with mail. I dropped out of all of them. If it's not easy, like here on Cute, I don't have the time for it.
I have mixed feelings. Some are terrific. Others leave a lot to be desired. Charla
I was in a Yahoo group for awhile, but my my email inbox was bombarded with mail so I dropped out.
Ich finde die Yahoo Gruppe auch nicht so toll oft ist es mir einfach zu lange bis eingeloggt bin und dann noch suche
I don't have a yahoo email address - and I don't particularly want one. I have a gmail because of my phone, my email because of the business I'm trying to start, my work emails (I have 9 that I have to check) - I don't want another email just because of yahoo. If I could use another email maybe - but I don't need another email account to keep up with. I have plenty. Maybe I can use one I already have and I just haven't looked into it enough....
I am a member of several Yahoo groups and have found them invaluable as a source of information on specific subjects, e.g.: Elna embroidery machines; Xpressive & Embird software; reborn doll making, are only a few of the many I have joined over the last 10 years.
I prefer the format over all the other online forums, nothing is visible to the general public, members are screened and monitored to weed out undesirables, you can choose which way you want to receive messages and, because they come as emails, you can set up rules to move them into individual folders and only read the ones you know will be of interest to you and you only reply when you want to participate.
Yep, I love Yahoo groups.
hugs n roses, Meganne
I agree with Meganne. I actually learned almost everything I know about machine embroidery as well as some of my other sewing interests, from Yahoo groups. In a helpful group, I find the message archives to be invaluable. And some groups have files that are so full of tips, videos, etc. that I've never missed not having support of my machines through a dealer - some of these groups have much more knowledge! I agree, there are some that have too many ads, or too much sidetalking. For some that have the occasional gem hidden among the ads, I filter them, and have anything with the workd "AD" go to a box, which I can delete en mass. I also use gmail for everything else, but I like have my craft things separated from my personal, financial, etc. In addition to all the craft groups, I've found good Yahoo support for photography, cooking, software, FreeCycle, etc. Can you tell I'm a fan?
I belong to a few and they are much easier than putting things in shopping carts and checking out.I have some wonderful freebies too.
Try some and see for yourself. Once approved it is plain sailing.
Happy Yahooing!
From Bev
The problem for me has been to be approved, there is one that I would like to join but they just ignore my request.
I fully agree with you - I have not signed up for any Yahoo groups - it would take up even more of the time I am on the computer
