i can't find one in machine embroidery for less than 15 dollars. I'll wait for a sale.

How do we look at a project. I would like to see it, regardless of the time here in England. 1.45am...hmmm perhaps I should go to bed.
Hi Lyn - now I have a new challenge!!! I looked through all my quilting block designs and there are quite a few 4x4 ones that would make excellent Biscornu pin cushions. There are a lot of larger ones, too, which I suspect would make better pin cushions. I'm only looking at the square ones.
What's your advice re: size of the square designs?
Think....... do I need another challenge????
Answer ..... yes, indeed I do, and then I can give some pressies to my Girls-in-the- Family.
Did you fill your Biscornus with batting or did they have a core of clean sand, in a little bag, in the middle for sharpening pin points?
AlmaG.
When I was younger my Mother-in-law made me a Chatelaine which looks something like in the picture on the website at Artistic Designs. I used to hang it round my neck. It consisted of a pin cushion, scissor holder, thimble case and a needle case. I am assuming this BISCORNU is the same idea.
Love Chris
P.S. The one in the picture below is not mine it is off the internet, but you can get the idea.
I've seen your biscornus (lol is that the plural form?) posted in projects and they are lovely and yep, you have inspired me to add making some to the (ever growing) list. *4all
I had a feeling that Biscornu was for 1 or more. I am not sure but please feel free to correct me. Lyn
I'd love to try one out as it seems easy enough. What size is the square you start with, some 5"? I've been asked to contribute 'something' to a church fair on 2 April. I hate those vague questions and rather have more specific directions. But pincushions might be just the thing.
Martine - the file(design) is done in a 5x7 hoop - but the embroidered design itself is just a little larger than the 100x100 hoop. It is recommended to cute 1/2" from the first stitch line, and then hand stitch them together. My 4D software stated 120.4 x 120.4 for the design. I do think that pincushions are on the collectors list now, for I am seeing them more and more. Good luck with this. There is also a smaller design that is for a fob for the scissors.
ok - it means to say cut 1/2" from first stitch line, to assemble. - I can not type today.
I stitched out another last evening but have not put them together yet. Just measured the stitching and it is exactly 5" square, but when you cut around the fabric leave 1/2inch all around as in a seam. Lyn
Thank you all. I made one yesterday evening before reading this and stitched it together on the sewing machine, except for a small opening to fill. I think some decoration around the seam would look better than my plain seam. I'm certainly give it another go!
Ok I must be in LA La Land. Don't know what Biscornu is and never heard of it. I looked at your project, very pretty. But what is it?
Cindy B
No posh isn't Australian slang, British English uses the word too. There's a myth the word comes from 'port out starboard home', which were supposed the sides you wanted your cabin to be on when travelling by boat to and from India.
I must admit I had never heard the word 'Biscornu' before so I looked it up. Very pretty designs! You do good work!
I am glad to hear that you impired another to try one - I bet you will be seeing some in the next week in projects, too.
Hope so Shirlene. I have made some scissor fobs and small pin cushions from the same patten, plus 2 more Biscornu. have to sew them together. Have to make pot Holders, Milk Jug covers, Owl items and also Penguin & Panda items by the second Sunday of this month. Will I make it? Also want to make some table runners, but Quilting frightens me. Need 36 hrs in my day. Lyn
