Sandy, have a look in the projects section for the project that I've just submitted - *Ruthie's thread holders*, it's a really neat way to organise threads. Okay, so I'm bragging about what my DH made for me, haha!!! Hugs and a flower for you sweetie.

I have several sets of drawers each with 2 large drawers in plus a narrow draw on top, which I keep small items in. I use Robinson Anton 1000m threads and I find you can store approx 35 of these in each drawer. Also they have a place to put the thread in now, they didn't previously so my husband use to make a small slit in the bottom of the reel to place the end of the thread in. These drawers fit one on top of each other and are this helps to keep it neat and tidy
Good Luck Dixie

I made my own thread nets out of stretchy netting, see project on page 20. I have some of those Enviro tubes from ShoppersRule for storgae but still haven't decided how to store all my threads, so i'm glad you asked this question as I too am looking for ideas. Thanks so much for asking it. cheers and roses for all, Meganne

i use the plastic you buy to protect table tops the thick one to wrap around the threads it self sticks and use over and over once ends are secure you can store in plastic containers.

thanks, I'll look at some of it, sounds like you could get a lot from a small piece of it. *

I use the nets you put over the spools for the loose ends. Then I have two big spool racks to put my spools of thread on. I mounted them onto the wall, right hand side of machine. Then to keep the dust and light off the I took two pretty embroidered towels sewed small pieces of ribbon onto the back to hook to the eye hooks on the wall.So when I'n not useing them they go nighty night.

I never thought about the light, would that cause some fading? Do you have to remove the nets before embroiderying? Dumb question I know, but I'm new to this. *4u

tmbache by tmbache 21 Mar 2008

Yes!!! light will fade your thread. Do check it when you buy it at the store that is not a fast seller. we had some at "everyones" favorite Wal Mart . the black, red and one of the blues faded from the bright lights. open 24/7 so lights were on all the time. new kept beeing put up in front not rotating like should do. I do take the nets off. But if it comes off to fast when spools get close to the ends. I put a new net on cause they aren't streched out so much. Good luck in finding what works for you all.Warm hugs to all.

sandy - I have something called envirotubes that i got from Shopper's Rule. They hold 6 spools. This also has a UV protection so light does not effect them. Need to get some more, and see that they have a special at Shopper's going on now. Buy the RA thread and they send free tubes - not a bad deal.

I have a 6 drawer clear plastic bin, I think I bought at office depot. You can put coaster wheels on the bottom, but I don't use mine. The thread stands up, and I only use Sulky or Mettler thread so, they have the spools that catch the thread on and hold it. I am an admitted bit of a neat freak ;)

Well being one to like to see what I got, I bought several of those peg type stands, my hubby mounted them on the wall behind my sewing machine and I keep those little 'thread nets' over them, they keeps them from unraveling and from getting dusty.

sandy, I bought some cute things called Artbin from NancysNotions.com, I have three of them - they have their own lid and handle for carrying when I go to an embroidery club or to my Mother's - they keep all my thread lined up and I use the amazing tape on each spool to control the loose ends. *4U

You are welcome - I like this idea - so that I can see the colors and also so that I can take them with me and it keeps them air tight.

Hello sandy38001, I bought myself also the little ponytailholders to wrap arround my cones and for the big cones I bought the larger ones. To store the threadcones i store them in the box were I bought them in, in the box on the bottum are the colornumbers and they corresponding with my numbers on the cones so tyhey are always on the same place. The box contains 70 cones and is called a sampler box it is from BRILLDOR.

I store mine in the tall stands with plastic drawers. I like the ones with the shallow drawers. You can stand your thread up and still see the colours. I use the small ponytail elastics that you get at the dollar store to wrap around the spools to hold the thread in place.
