I would like one that uses variegated thread but can use any kind. I found some on OregonPatchWorks but don't want to pay $10 for one design.

Thanks to all of you -- and I did go to the sites you suggested and downloaded some of the freebies. I ended up finding a seashell scene at Emb.Library and with a 40% discount only paid $2.99 for it. I am very happy with it and it will be just right for my project.

Did you search "shell" or "beach" at the left "all topics" search engine?

Raggedy, most of the ones I have seen are in a set - but I would search emblibrary.com - I just bet they have one that you can use variegated thread on - matter of fact - I think they have one that is made for variegated thread.

Embroidery Library has some nice things. Search for A Nautical Medley Design Pack- A8165 and A8167. Also look for Sea Life Miniatures Designs.

EL has some really nice designs that may interest you. I went thru my folder of tropical/beach designs from them and came across the Caribbean Creatures packs 1 & 2 that held some colorful ones, also Day at the Beach design pack which were pretty also.
