Any homeschooling moms out there? I homeschool my daughter now through an online public homeschool, but I think I need to switch... I don't like the curriculum and I don't like their responsiveness, but she is extremely bright (which is why we pulled her out of public school). We live in the boonies and the public schools here are terrible and we have this program called "no child left behind" which means all the smart kids get left in a corner. My daughter had read every book in the library by the time she graduated from 5th grade - she is now in 7th grade. I'm afraid that if I chose a program like abeka that it will be fine for 1 or 2 subjects but the rest will be too easy. Where she is now they do adjust her grade level appropriately by subject, I just don't like the fact that all her papers are typed (writing is not an issue) and grammar is not a subject. I know I have to pick my battles - I just don't know which battles are most important for her. I had to wake her up at 5:15 this am to make sure she was doing her work because she isn't doing it when I leave for work (and she usually does)... I'm just sort of stuck... suggestions?

My son is a partial homeschooler. Meaning he does take some online classes, he graduated from a 9th grade virtual program before he graduated from a private school 8th grade. My son is 15 and is now a dual enrolled student at a charter school but has a certificate in Graphics Design Support from a state college and will obtain his AA degree in Psychology this May. I use the Florida Virtual School here in this state it is free, but students from other states can use the program for a fee. Go to FLVS.net so far I Love Florida Virtual.

Oregon patchworks has a link on their site about home schooling and lessons (near the bottom left of the home page).
Hope it can be of use to you.

I wish I could help. I know there are a lot of moms in our military family who homeschool, but I don;t know what program(s) they use. I do know that homeschooled kids work much harder thn those in public school and gp through more testing also. It is a tough job and I want you to know that I admire you and want to give you a huge pat on the back.

Thank you!! She works very hard and does get tested 3 times per year to make sure that she knows her stuff (which she does).... I just don't like it that they are so into technology that they are forgetting the basics!!

I think home schooling must be tough ,and you and your DD are very brave to do it.
It takes a lot of dedication from the learner to get the lessons done by themselves.
My DD has graduated (ACIS, Bcom )and I know how she had to miss outings with her friends because she had to study. We are all so proud of her.
Here, there is no support for questions and study material is at your own expense and badly written. She complained constantly about the bad spelling.
Deciding if you are getting the right/best subjects for your home study must be very challenging.
We were lucky to have very well established schools, to send our kids to, until Matric Level.
Wishing you and your DD the best.

We were very blessed to purchase a new home but unfortunately it is in the WORST school district possible. The other 2 districts nearby are very bad, but this one is the absolute worst. I think I read 14% of seniors are on track to graduate this year - its terrible. If I thought I would have every had to send her to school we never would have moved here. I just want to do what is best for her. The only good private school is nearly and hour in the opposite direction from where I work and I would have to find another job because we can't afford that school anyway. Ugh... God will provide!! Thank you for your well wishes :)
