Ok - I have embird and I bought the tutorials on how to digitize, but I have a very short attention span and I just haven't figured it out yet. I actually did create my own applique once, but I haven't learned how to really edit anything. I can do the basics tho. So here's my issue - I've created my quilt label for Ms. Alice's quilt for Wednesday (I decided against trying to print it) - but the file that I'm using (its a free file for stitching for pink) is not an applique and I want it to be. Can someone help me turn it into an applique? It has the first line of straight stitches and a line of zig zags, but I don't know how to add a satin stitch in after that. I know it can't be that difficult... I just don't remember how to do it!!

If you have a straight stitched outline, select it and go to 'convert', 'create coloumn from outline', select that and go to 'convert' again 'column to applique. That's it.
You can use 'convert' 'split applique into layers' and move the satin stitch of the applique to be stitched last.

Set the column width at 2.5 - 3 mm, the density at 4(default) and when you convert to an applique the program sets the attachment zigzag automatically.

I have Pe-Design.(maybe similar for the process on your program)
To make my quilt lables I make 4 copies(copy and paste) of the outline that I draw with the drawing tools: Change the colours of each .

1) first one choose the straight stitch, sew once, this will show where to place appli fabric.

2) second one choose the sraight stitch ,sew once, this is to tack the appli fabric in place. This is when you trim the appli fabric next to the stitching.

3) third one choose the V-stitch or the E-stitch, this is to tack the appli down.

4) fourth one choose satin stitch 3.5mm length and 4.8mm desity

Now you can import your lovely design for your lable.

Happy Stitching!

If you send it to me I will do it for you, quicker than trying to explain it, we can do all that later when you have more time.
