Have you had your pancakes today - or is that just a UK tradition for Shrove Tuesday?

It is such a shame living away from UK. I had no idea it was Shrove Tuesday. I could have easily made savoury pancakes yesterday. We will have them tonight!!!!! Thanks Sue for the reminder.

It is Ash Wednesday here now as well. No more goodies until Easter! (Must think about making a Simnel Cake)

Well yesterday for us, and we had pancakes for tea, with our deacon and a couple of people from church around too. My daughters thought pancakes for tea was great!
I served them with a selection of toppings to choose from on the table - bacon, maple syrup, yoghurt, fruit and of course traditional lemon and sugar! Bacon and maple syrup is rather nice :)
I started the fruit and yogurt ideas to reduce the amount of sugar consumed by my daughters, otherwise they get too silly!
We gathered as a parish family for Shrove Tuesday where we used to live and it was great. Haven't managed to get our new parish to catch on to the idea yet :(

Yes lOVE it, I make the Dutch ones called 3 in the pan. Much thicker batter and with cut up apple and sultanas in it. Delicious!!

Hi to all those wondering what SHROVE TUESDAY is all about -

Shrove Tuesday is the day before ASH WEDNESDAY in the Christian church and the idea is you get rid of all the "goodies" in the pantry for LENT.

SEWFRENZIE I am in the same boat as you. I can eat BUCKWHEAT pancakes though as they don't contain wheat. It's more like eating a multigrain style of pancake. Quite nice and Buckwheat is made from RHUBARB! How amazing is that?

I'm off to Ash Wednesday mass this evening and then our new Deacon (Michelle) is coming over to my place (I am only 6 houses from my church) to see all my designs for Stoles etc. I can't wait to see her and discuss what she'd like.

I have a free day today - babysitting Ophelie again tomorrow. So I hope t get some sewing done today.

Love and blessings Chris

Have a look at what SHROVE TUESDAY means on the link.

It is a tradition in France also. And on that day, the children can wear costum after school

I'd never heard of Shrove Tuesday before we came to live in England. Children had their pancake races at school. After we returned we kept up the custom for a couple of years. So I haven't had my pancakes today, but I have thought about it.

In some places in UK they have pancake races - you have to toss the pancake so many times as you run!

None here. Not sure what Shrove Tuesday is here in the USA. And I can't have pancakes :(
I live in a gluten free household, we have no wheat, barley, rye, etc.. products do to food reactions to the gluten in them. Maybe some day we'll be brave enough to try a gluten free pancake mix, :) Have a few for me, I miss them on occassion.
