mollymarie, you've been given some good advice here, and I'd love to see a picture in the *Project* area when it's finished. Hugs and a flower sweetie.
Everyone had good answers for you. I agree not to hoop. Would probably leave a hoop burn. Remember to stitch a sample first and you will know to adjust from there.
If it is real suede (leather) you may have issues with it tearing due to the multiple needle punches. Leather is fantastic looking when you embroider on it but it is one of the toughest to work with as well. I would be sure to use a decent stabilizer as others have mentioned, hoop the stabilizer not the material so you do not get fabric 'crush' or ghosting as jrob mentioned. I would use a pliable but good quality stabilizer not a tear away, so that it remains behind and stabilizing the tissues of the leather.
The help files at EmbLibrary has a list of their suggested stabilizers too at:

Oh mollymarie, what a great fabric to embroider on - I would not hoop it - but put a heavy weight tear away stabilizer in the hoop and them some spray adhesive - place your suede on the top and pin if needed - to keep in place or a large basting - then stitch away - I know you will have a lovely bedspread - what is the color and what designs are you planning on using? *4U Shirlene
thanks for that . not sure yet what designs but have many to chose from. The colour is apricot.
I have a magna hoop that is especially good to do things like this with, but before I got it, I hooped a heavy tear-a-way and used an adhesive spray and tacked down the suede to it. I also used some pins. Then I just placed a bit of water soluable as a topping to keep the stitches from burrowing down into the fabric. I also used an 80 sharp needle. Hope this helps.;)
thank you for your help, i love this site and is giving me inspriation that i have not had for a long time due to health. I am on the mend so want to start again.
