In Maine Hot Pads are what you put on your table to sit a hot pan or pie plate etc. on so it will not burn or melt you table cloth. when makeing a HOT PAD do not put a polyster filler in it, it will melt also. Use a 100 per cent cotton for outside and a cotton bate inside they also have a special bate that is like heat resitant. Can't seem to think of name, Haveing a brain cramp!!!Good luck and let us see if you plan on making some!!! warm hugs and spring tulips to all
In my part of the country it could be pads to pick up hot dishes and pans OR to place under hot dishes on the table.
Qee, I don't have sented ones. Usually just a pad to protect the table or countertop from a hot dish or pan.
My hot pads are made of crocheted threads of one pattern doubled. One pattern on top and the same for the bottom crocheted together around the edges. This making the hot pad very thick and safe for hot dishes right from the oven or stove top, to the table or counter top.
Most people refer to the sort you put hot pans and pots on to save your counter tops as 'hot pads' ...tho my mom always called port holders 'hot pads' lol. I think what you are looking at is to put on your counter, not to protect you hand as you pick up the pan. These are usually too thick and not flexible enough to be safe as a pot holder. If they contain herbs, flowers or oils it is so that as the heat dissipates from the cookware the essential oils in things like lavender will be released. That way the nice scent will be released!

It is what we put on the table under hot pots. Some have scents in it (I made some one year with spices). Here is a site that tells how to make one too: http://sewing.about.com/od/freepr...
