Bev, the threads I buy here in SA are all like that and when I first started I also had no idea how to fix the ends. It was my DH that solved it for me. I felt such a fool.
I too did not know this. I have had my Metro thread for a long time now. I do not feel too smart about now!! Duh!
I didn't know they did this for quite awhile after I purchased them and one day the light came on in my head. Did I feel stupid or what?
trouble with the thread holders they get brittle and break the best I have ever used is Thread wrap Its clear plastic that wraps around the whole real of thread and overlaps thus sticking to itself you can still see the colour and protects your threads you can cut the width to fit all size reels
The same thing happened for me, too! My brother had to show me the ropes. Other day, I almost really had a horrible accident. I've got a spool of the variegated about half empty or is that half full? LOL
Anyway, I was pulling the bottom and just about pulled the thread off the spool. So another lesson learned for me. The large cones, I just put the lose thread at the bottom where the thread meets the cone and it stays nicely.
I'm sure happy to see all the responses about this, makes me feel not so alone.
Hugs and *4U and everyone!!
Gosh, I wonder how many people ordered the metro thread after the posting here? I know I did. LOL
Unfortunately the 5000m ones don't have that feature, pity it would be great! Love Chris
Oh wow, cool, I just ran in and grabbed a spool that I have a ponytail holder around to hold the thread! I didn't know about this so thanks for enlightening me and anyone else who didn't know, I have my Metro thread for months, lol!!!!
I've never heard of that. I have some Sulky 1500 yard. Do they have that feature? Can you post a picture?
Here is the picture. Thank you. Now I understand.

I love how the spools have that feature. Keeps it neat! How nice of your son to help. Glad you figured it out. *4U
lol...almost fell out of my chair laughing. Believe me you're not the first to have a DUH moment concerning this issue, in fact a lot of ladies complained about the spool now being oversized since they hadn't figured out the new features either. We're never to old to learn something new.
What size spools did you buy - mine doesn't have that?
I di d buy a couple of the smaller spools - when they ran out of the color I wanted in the bigger one and yes, it does have it on them.
Mine are the small spools and wow and I glad to just now find this out, love it, good-bye ponytail holders, lol!
The new large size sulky threads have this kind of bottom also.
No, you are not the only one who didn't know. Tell your son I said thanks. And thank you for sharing the information.
LOL! Are you sure your not talking about me? When I first got the thread I was trying to figure out how to get the start thread. So I look at the top and no little piece of thread sticking out. I looked at two or three spools when I spied a tiny piece of thread sticking out of the bottom! Whew! So glad to see I wasn't the only one! Thanks for the giggle!
Hugs Dawn
It did make me feel kind of dumb. After I pulled the thread out of the bottom I couldn't figure how how to get it back in there. Now I know
Bev
I found where the thread came out of but didn't realize you could pop down that ring to put the thread back in there!
