up in my studio because they have no other place. I have now bagged them all together put a date on it and I put it in Harry Potters room (the cupboard under the stairs) and I plan to throw them out in a year if their owners don't claim them.

Do people in your house dump things in your space because they can't figure out what else to do with it?

I do a wonderful job all by myself cluttering my sewing room....which sometimes spills out the door, down the hall, into other bedrooms, down the stairs, onto the dining room table......I might have to borrow your Harry Potter room to be able to get out of the way of my Stuff! I have been trying to tame this monster, however, Goodwill is very very thankful ;-D *

I have a very vivid imagination and I can see a mental picture of your overflowing stuff all over your house. lol.

Partially I relate to carolyn70. I am often accompanied by the now 2 cats, though I am not happy having them in the room when sewing.

I worry about my cats in my area too. I read about a Cutie who's cat died because it ate embroidery thread. I am much more careful with my thread now.

I guess I am pretty lucky, I look around and just see my own dissarray of sewing stuff. I do use a spare bedroom for my sewing room. It's just my husband and I, and he is very neat. I am still working on how to organize my work space.

I am very lucky to have taken over our double car garage which has been carpeted and fitted with lots of power points, but although I have lots of space, but I do think that organizing your sewing area is an evolutionary process.

I have a Cricuit Expression, and a Yudu machine that I thought would be great, all they are doing now sense I got the embroidery machine is taking up space. LOL wish I could find someone that wants to buy them, but I live in a very small town. Iva

Perhaps you should put them on ebay.

mommadooks by mommadooks 11 Mar 2011

I have thought of that, but not sure how it all works

When the kids where home I had no room of my own.
Now, my room is filled to the brim with all my hobby stuff and overflowing the doors. I did organize and have closet dividers and shelves etc.
but I need to redo again due to fabric sales.

Once a year I go threw our house seeking donations for goodwill and thats how I get rid of extra nonused items.

I think de-cluttering is an ongoing process. It is good you now have your own room. We have a saying here in Australia "every bloke needs a shed" I believe that girls need there own space too.

Well, Alice, I guess the stack of family clothing that needs to be altered or mended, I REALLY do NOT NEED! I would have to stop embroidering to deal with that stack!! LOL (If I were wealthier, I would surely toss them out!)
As my sewing room is my youngest daughter's former bedroom (that I quickly converted after she left the nest), it seems that it becomes a storage room for anything any member of the family decides they may not want, but haven't determined if they shoud get rid of it just yet. I spent most of yesterday deciding FOR them!! I had to "declutter" and "reclaim" MY space!
I, now, have room to turn around and breathe! I sorted my bags of stash, labeled and organized them! Hurrah!!

That is exactly what happens in mine, if someone does not know where to put it they put it in my space.

I would hate that, I like to go to the gym away from all of the distractions then spend 1/2 hour in the sauna with a book. Total me time.

anangel by anangel 10 Mar 2011

Oh, NO......!! A treadmill! I could not enjoy stitching for the guilt trip of it
sitting there waiting for me impatiently!! LOL

Alice

They dump everything on me. Mostly their children when I need to do some work or am extremely tired. But I love all the same.

For you for being so kind. (Hope it works)

Thank you for the lovely flowers. I wish I got my grandchildren dumped on me more often. I have unfortunately raised my kids to be very close and supportive and my other kids get to babysit all the time. So I miss out.

Only the suitcases that are in the closet. My husband stays out of my sewing room and I stay out of his garage.

Mine gets cluttered too. When I have guests to sleep over, all sorts of things get moved into my sewing space like: My Music Keyboard+stand,2 guitars, The extra laundry and allsorts.
Then when they leave it takes forever to get it sorted again. My mom came to stay for Christmas 3 yrs ago, she had my bedroom, and I have only discovered my projects and knitting books the other day.
I must admit tho that there is way too much of my own stuff .
Good idea ! I should "date" my fabric and then throw it out when the year is up.

Well that is a bit much. sounds like you need another room at your place.

Hmmm husbands. Mine puts everything right on top of my computer keyboard, I say to him there are 2 tables in this room you couldn't put that thing on there. I know he does it on purpose to make me notice he has had to move it from elsewhere in the house. He can be passive aggressive at times.
