I use Wilcom software to convert pes or other formats to EXP format, then use my Bernina software to save them as ART files. I hope that makes sense. It's the only way I know to do it. But it really messes up the colors!
While all Bernina software will convert INTO ART, these ART files will not automatically be the same as if digitized/stored in ART, i.e. you can not convert a "stitch-coordinates only" design into a design which has curves with stitching paramters. The converted ART files ('grade D' in our V4 software) will work perfectly with Bernina machines, but there is no other benefit to be gained.
@cherylgauteng: Does the V6 "retrace" some of the imported designs, i.e. convert stitches into lines with styles? I could imaging software doing it - like a tracing program to recognize text from an image - but I wouldn't expect the quality to be great for all but the standard stitch-styles.
Bernina software is the only one that can reformat TO art; others can only read and convert FROM it, but not the other way round.
I have Bernina V6 software and before that used V5 - this converts everything except JEF and RAR files to ART. I will change it for you if you send to me.
Send me a pm if you want me to do it for you and give me your email address and I will send you mine.
