Thanks everyone...I will continue to pass these suggestions on to my friend.
I have been told by a Singer dealer that Pfaff and Singer (and Husquavarna) all owned by one company. That is true in SA that they are one importer but I wonder if they are made in the same factory. Sometimes the "outline" is because of "bad" digitising so if the design doesn't work on another machine it's the digitising and not the machine.
This is true in the states also. Singer, Pfaff, Husquavarna/viking and white are all one company with Singer as the parent company. They merged several years ago. Another interesting fact there isn't any sewing machines made in the states but Singer was the last to have their machines made overseas. Something else not all of Singers machines are made in China, most are made in Taiwan, Brazil, and even Viet Nam. Also I own a CE350 and work on many different Singer machines everyday and have found them to be reliable and easy to use. Stabilization is key, also what KazzKraft said is true about putting the hoop on. :)
Maybe she'll be lucky and try the suggestion by kazzcraft or one of the others and that will fix the problem. Hopefully it doesn't mean a new machine.
Good luck!
Have a 200 that's the biggest piece of junk I ever bought. Replace the machine and don't waste money on any repairs. Costly lesson. But I put mine in a closet, under a ton of stuff so I don't have to look at it and cry.
well mine was/is a piece of junk lol i grabbed it by the handle and knocked the timeing out so he said and the belt came off,i traded it in on a brother lol carolyn
You have gotten some excellent advice all the way around.Stabilizer, fabric on bias, I made collars for my hoops with the non skid shelf liners & use it them to keep my fabric taut. Another thing is the design itself, I have often found sometimes the outlined stitches not digitized close enough to the design. Then of course it could be the hoop not being stable as one cute said or the machine itself. If all she tries does not fix the problem I would take the machine along with a design she has tried to do to the dealer or repairman so they can see what the problem is./Lillian
I have the same problems, I have a brother se270d & se350. Just got 1 out of the shop and still the same. So I try to stay away from outlines if I can.
When I first had my Futura I had all sorts of problems of the machine not lining up properly, I discovered quite by accident (The manual tells you NOTHING) that it is all in the way you attach the hoop. You will notice the hoop has two square holes, and the machine has two square raised bits where you attach the hoop - well I just did what the manual tells you and push it on FIRMLY and tightened the screws - WRONG!!!!! line the square raised bits into the holes, half tighten the screws then wiggle the hoop a little to make sure it is "seated" over the raised bits, - Like me you will have no further trouble with lining up even when you are doing cutwork and taking the hoop on and off
GOOD LUCK
I agree, I do this too and I tighten the screws with a screwdriver so that they don't loosen during stitchout.
I have a Futura CE-250 and I love it, it sewed beautifully but the motor is going out and it costs so much to get a new one that I'm looking for another machine.
I have a Singer Futura CE-250 I have not had a problem with mine at all. Love it.
My viking1 did that too.. I had to get a step motor and then have it calibrated. 170 dollars. Good luck
Best suggestion is to get another machine. I have a 200 and getting ready to try to sell it. Same problem. I got a used Bernina and working the same designs it does perfectly. The Futrua series is JUNK. Singer sold out to a Chinese company and all they wanted was the name.
I have to agree, my futura is sitting in a corner, needs work but I don't know if I want to put more money into it. last repair cost me 150.00 and it still has problems. Love my new brother PE-770

That's pretty much what she's been afraid of....she just got a bad machine. That's too bad.
Is she hooping her fabric correctly? What type of fabric is she stitching on? If the fabric is on the bias or if the fabric is being pulled too tight it could cause this problem. Also, is the stabilizer being used correct? That's all I can think of at this time. Maybe another Cutie has more info for you.
I think she has this issue often/always?? but this time she was working with stretch denim, which may pose it's own issue. I do think she has the problem with various fabrics. She lives 200 miles from me or I'd go watch!
The biggest problem is the material in the hoop does
not stay as tight as it should. I suggest that you put a large rubber band around the hoop to help hold
the material better
