Myself, I use cotton for piecing and cotton and cotton poly for quilting on my longarm. I do know of a shop that uses nothing but embroidery thread for quilting but I have no idea what brand it is. I would not use it. I guess her machine likes it so she sticks with it. Stick with the cotton or cotton/poly for quilting.
Sorry not really a good idea as for the many reasons below! All that work that you have put into the quilt top, means it's something that you want to last & 100% cotton quilting thread will see that it does! 100% cotton thread for hand & machine quilting is different too! I have done embroidery designs on quilts too but after time embroidery thread will fade & it isn't stong enough to stand up to multiple washings either. good luck Hugs Loralye
I was wondering if embroidery thread would be strong enough. I did not want to put my quilt together and then have the thread break because it was not meant to take the stress of use and washing. Thanks!
100% cotton is probably best. for small quilts embroidery thread would be ok in certain areas. Hugs Sally
Embroidery thread is not strong enough to use in quilting. The thread has less fibers wound together to create the thread on the spool. This thread is only used to embellish fabric.
On the size quilt you've done, I recommend 100% cotton thread. On small wall hangings and table runners, I have used embroidery thread and that has worked out just fine.

I do use embroidery thread for machine quilting and have been pleased with the results. Try it on a scrap to see if you like the look.
Its not the look I was worrying about, but if the thread was strong enough to stand up to the useage it would get.
