Hi, I would like to know which was the original format of your designs. My machine accepts pretty much any format, I would like to download them in the original format so colors won´t change.Thks

Mops has given you the appropriate explanation and if I may go a bit further to help you understand, digitisers do not create designs in any machine's format. They are created in a special OUTLINE file specific to each program. After the digitiser is happy with the result they then convert the outline file into a STITCH file (machine format file).

Each machine brand/format has what is called a palette, or range of colours, some may only be limited to the primary colours: red, blue, green, and several secondary colours: purple, yellow, orange, etc.

Others may have a palette containing 20 colours and still others have even more colours in their palette.

So depending on the machine/format the colours will be chosen from the palette belonging to each particular one. DST is the worst because it has the least number of colours in its palette.

Most digitisers will supply a TEXT file colour chart, or a jpeg image with the colours they have used, so if you really want the design to stitch out in the colours the digitiser has used you should make sure you keep these files.

But then of course unless you have every brand of thread, in every colour, there is no way you will be able to match up the colours perfectly for every design, so the best you can do is have thread comparison colour charts and find the best match from the threads that you have.

Embroidery Library has a service on their web site where you can select the MADEIRA colours you want to find a match for, then select the brand you want to choose from and it will find a match for you in that brand. I have added the link below.

I hope this helps you to understand the very complex, but easily fixed, colouring of designs.
Hugs and roses, Meganne

Thanks Meganne, I tend to be a bit concise at times :)

Didn't mean to steal your thunder dear friend.

You use the KISS principle, I tend to use the Dummie principle, not to be insulting but because you don't know, what you don't know, until you know it.

So I just assume most people don't know exactly what you mean unless you explain it (sometimes you need pictures too because some people are purely visible learners).

I guess this comes from being a tenpin coach and teaching handicapped adults, they sure taught me a lot about how to be a better teacher. :-)))

I'm new to machine embroidery and I've just used whatever I wanted for colors. Each design is done in brands of thread I don't have so I still have to figure out what would be closest to what they used.
Just use whatever color you like - they all turn out really good even then.

Welcome to cute. I'm like the others...I seldom use the colors listed with the design.

I think that I might have used original colors on maybe 10 designs in all these years. I use my own. For better or worse.

It is luck of the draw. Every site uses a different base format, every designer uses a different base format. Charla

The original digitising is done in a design file, when I'm satisfied I batch-convert to embroidery filesin in all formats I upload and still the colours are all different as they are those that are in the palet of the different brands. So you'll have to download a colour chart. I hardly ever use the original colours anyway, just choose what I like from the colours I have - spoiled for choice as I have over 300 in Madeira rayon and about as may in Marathon polyester.

well sweetie you're in for a rude awakening. It usually doesn't much matter what format you download in, the colors that show up and usually not the colors of the pix. Don't know why it just works out that way. so if you keep the pixs of the designs you'll be good, otherwise convert all the colors in your designs as you collect them and then don't worry. I know I use my 4D embroidery to conver to my format and change the colors as needed. good luck and welcome
