Anyone read the tip of the day at emblibrary. This seems like even more work than necessary. it would not work for me. Has anyone ever tried it?

I just did a design with 12 color changes. I don't think so. But not every idea is good for everybody. If it works for her, well and good.

If that is the only way you could do go for it. I'd try something else first.

Sheer madness!
My overlocker (serger) came with a thread like loop needle threader that is really flexible, nice and long so it is easy to put this into the needle from behind, slip the thread through the loop then pull the threader back through the needle. So it works exactly the same as an ordinary needle threader except for its added length and flexibility make it a joy to use. Bernina make it.

I have a Bernina/Bernette overlocker too and the other day I dropped that needle threader - man o man I thought the world was ending lol I neeeeeed that lill bit of wire loop lol

I bought a "looper threader" a long time ago, but it doesnt fit in the space that Bernina provided inside the cover of the machine. Luckily I found the wire loop/threader :D

Get a really strong magnet! Like the magnetic pin cushions have. Just brush it along the floor upside down an Viola you've got it.

Never tried that one nor do I think I would. Too much work! I just finished a design that had 34 thread changes, can you imagine how long that would have taken to take that dang needle out each time? My atomatic threader on my Janome works just fine, so I'll just let it do the work for me. Carol

i don't have the patience or the coordination to do that..especially if i had 15 color changes like Lyn mentioned!

it wouldn't work for me either!!

Wouldn't it be easier to get a needle threader instead of taking the needle out. My machine has a needle threader anyhow. Can you imagine when you have 15 colour changes. Lyn

Sounds more like the DUH for the day!! What a pain in the patooie that would be!!!!!!!

I do not think I would do that. A white paper works as you all have said.

I read it and I too wondered about that one. It seems like extra work to me.

Maybe she needs to get someof those self threading needles machine needles. Have seen them but haven't tried them. I just use a piece of white paper behind the needle.

If I am having trouble threading my needle I put my glasses on :) My over locker is the only machine that does not have an automatic needle threader.

What a crazy idea. Both my embroidery machine and sewing machine are self threading thank goodness. I just hate threading my overlocker (serger) so I usually knot those threads and pull them through.

Have one machine that has a built in threader but the other ones and the serger are a pain to thread. Would not try, the take the needle out - thread and put back in, because I did once and that was a bigger aggravation.

Wow, talk about time consuming! Unless she has some kind of easy needle in and out that would be harder than threading it in the machine! I have a self threading embroidery machine but not regular sewing one, that one can take me a while. Years ago when my grown sons were in high school I had been trying forever to thread the needle (why didn't I use that little thing for hand sewing needles?) my one son came in and I told him I had to have him do it for me. I have hereditary tremors and sometimes they are not too bad but other times I can barely write.

it would take even longer if your design had lots of color changes.

I hope she turns off or even unplugs it first. But then she has no light to see with.

I wouldn't take a needle out to thread it either, Bev. I do grab a needle pack and put the white side (the inner flap on an organ pack) behind the needle for better contrast though -it helps me see where the needle eye is :)

Well, no, actually. That's why I refuse to ever ever purchase another machine without a self threading thingy. Both of my Janomes have the threader. I think it would be really easier to use that cheap little metal thing that used to come in needle packs to thread the machine than to take out the needle. Hugs, Marji

I'm guessing you stick to the brand of needles issued with your machine? Coz I'm not sure that all brands have the eye in the same place therefore the needlethreaders don't always line up!

bevintex by bevintex 22 Mar 2011

I love the threading thingy. Have it on my sewing and emb machine.

I would be both after all that!

Could you imagine color changes!

I think it is a wonderful idea. I have trouble seeing the small eye of the needle especially when it is in the machine unless I am holding a magnifying glass and that isn't very easy either. So this really makes a lot of sense to me. I haven't tried it but I will now. Thanks I never read the tip of the day.

a white piece of paper held behind the needle might work for you like it does for me.

eteaff by eteaff 23 Mar 2011

Great idea I'll try that too.
